Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I am experiencing severe pain in my right thigh, right where it meets the hard ridge surrounding the drivers seat controls. I have had it to the dealer and they performed the TSB. I took it back with the same complaint and the dealer told me to call consumer affairs. I called about 8 weeks ago and consumer affairs indicated that there is nothing they can do, after getting advisement from an engineer. Today I called back to file another complaint and I get some story that they want to check with the dealer where I bought the car to see if there is some field modification they are unaware of. I told consumer affairs that it was the dealer who advised me to call them in the first place, since the dealer was not authorized to make any repairs not blessed by consumer affairs. I have read where others have the same complaint on this site. Can anyone tell me if they have found some resolution to this very painful problem? I am considering selling the car, but I hate to since I really like everything else about it.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I absolutely agree with you. The seat first of all have no recline, then its got no memory, now I'm paying 38K for a car and they don't have these features but a final blow, these seats are really really uncomfortable. Now, I'm 6'1" 250 Lbs. Infiniti better don't say nothing about the way I'm statured. Why, Why, why, why couldn't they do a better job, I don't know.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I have to agree with you. I love the car, but this is a minor problem for me as well. I'm 6-3, so my legs have to bow out slightly at the knees. My right thigh presses on the hard edge of the seat as you described. I did find some relief by tipping the seat forward, in other words lowering the front of the seat and raising the rear.
Hope this helps you....
P.S. I'm keeping my G come hell or high water :-)

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

maybe you guys can look into some 350z seats? I feel fine in the driver seat and my thigh is about 1-2inch away from the hard plastic part.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I have tried everything imaginable to try to alleviate the pain over the 6 months I have owned the car. Including every possible seat position with the various adjustments. I have removed every thing from my rear pockets. I am not a very large person, 5’8” @ 175lbs, and can not explain why it is only certain people who experience this pain. I am not a neurologist, but suspect that people who experience this pain have a nerve that is sensitive to pressure in this area. The comment about “didn’t you sit the car before you bought it” is very irritating as I of course test drove the vehicle on a number of occasions, but I will try to understand the intent of the question and not the way it was presented. This pain first occurred as a dull aching pain after about 30 minutes of traveling, like a muscle strain and would disappear during the day. After spending a few thousand miles in the vehicle as a daily commuter the pain escalated to a sharp pain that would last for about an hour after exiting the car. Now after 5000 miles the pain remains in my leg for days. I had an opportunity to be away from my G35 for about 4 days, and on that 4th day I still had an aching sensations throughout the day in my right thigh. I am seriously considering some kind of legal action if Infiniti does not fix the problem, after all they have acknowledged the problem as they issued a TSB to deal with this complaint.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I also experience some discomfort in the hips/thigh area. But i think it's because I have somewhat wide hips and big thighs. I'm 6'0" tall, 185 lbs. But I have Mike Tyson type thighs. I had noticed this before I bought it. I gambled that once it broke in, it would give in and conform to my hips. I had problems with the seat in my 00 Maxima and it went away as it broke in. BTW, the seat in the 350 Z fits me like a glove. I wish the G had those seats instead. They look better put together also. The seats on the G are pretty, but the boldsters do look a litttle over-stuffed.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I'm sure you've tried this, but have you tried sitting closer to the controls, being sure not to rest your knee on the center console? I was able to sit closer, tilt the seat bottom back a tad, and keep my knee from resting on the console. This is habit now and all the pain is gone. I can lay my leg over that direction and take a sharp left and the pain will be there however. But in all, I've been completely successful in breaking myself of that habit. As long the leg is parallel to the control, I'm enjoying the ride..

Personally, I couldnt afford to trade the car right off like this and there was a slightly paniced moment thinking this pain would be constant. If like you, I was not able to alleviate the pain, I'd be pretty distraught too..

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

No problem here. The most comfortable seats I've ever had, that held where you were supposed to be when driving hard. IMHO. the seats are grreat.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I very much agree with everything you have been experiencing. I have not had the seat "fixed" yet, but I have plans for that to get done. If that doesn't fix the problem, which I'm assuming it wont, I think I'm gonna have to sell. At first it was a constant nagging dull type of pain in my thigh likes yours, then a more constant, sore bruised feeling and the inability to sit still. Also, and this is the most painful part, the next level of pain is the charley-horse I get in my groin (sorry for the graphics there). I am pissed, and at over $900 a month with insurance I think I have a reason to be. Whats worse is that my last car was a CL-S which has freakin leather recliners as seats. I am torn. I dont know what exactly to do. Guess I'll schedule my seat to be fixed and start calling consumer affairs.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

Odd, I'd swear these are the most comfortable seats I've ever had. I'm 6'3", 220, and would call myself big-thighed. Have driven 5 hours straight in pure driving ecstasy. For what it's worth, I sit as far back and low as possible, left foot on the dead pedal, right leg rolled a little outwards. Seat reclined a bit. Do you have an AT and perhaps brake with your left foot instead of your right? You might be shifted too far over in the seat. I will say that I'm right about at the size limit for the seat. A couple more pant sizes and I might not enjoy it so much.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

Are those Recaro seats standard on the Skyline 350gt or is it an aftermarket one?

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

Hey, those recaros are sweet. It is a consideration, especially since you like the car and hate the seats. It will be a very elusive legal issue since seat designs have different comfort levels to different occupants. I have also encountered
a slight discomfort in the area noted but nothing major. Here is another alternative. There are many pads designed for shoes that relieve various types of pains in various spots. You can either design or have designed something to cover this spot on your leg that would eleviate this contact. It could be as simple as foam covered in material that complements the material in your car. If it doesn't work then you can make your final decision. So before you give up, give some of the options a try. God speed.

5' 9", 195lbs here. Fits like a glove. Those Recaros are probably the best bet for the big big folks.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers seat!!!

I Just got a Loaner g35 sedan, maybe you can try those seats. The side bolster is not as angled and high up. I was playing with it to see if it would cause uncomfort as well, but none so far. The bad thing is that It is also not as grippy for me compare to the coupe seats, maybe this will solve the problem for you guys. P.S. it has memory seat too!
