with Itunes, it won't allow you to play it on any other source other than Ipod. You would need this program Hot Recoder fro Music from www.hotrecorder.com, to rip it into a wave file or mp3 inorder it to play. But If you have an 04-06 then it should play mp3 but if you have a 03 like me than the wave file should work.

If your music is not from the itunes store, you can go under the advanced settings and change the settings to burn an MP3 disc or a regular audio cd. If your music is from the itunes store (AAC format, e.g. song.mp4), you can burn it to a regular audio cd from within itunes. EDIT: To walk it through, go to edit->preferences -> advanced tab. Choose burning->mp3 cd or audio cd.
And just as a tip... if you want to rip a regular audio cd in itunes, go to the importing tab and change the import filter to MP3 decoder. Choose custom properties and choose the stereo bitrate as 192kbps or higher. Make sure VBR is unchecked. I like to uncheck the smart encoding adjustments and the filter below 10kHz. Just sounds better to me. Least as good as the Bose can produce
