My mother accidently put the key to the G in the S2000 and effectivly destroyed her imoblizer system. I guess the chip from my key messed up her computer pretty bad it won't even start. Who knows how much it will cost to get fixed. Can this happen to the G too?? I told her she was trying to make her honda a little nicer by using an Infiniti key. It's an ongoing riavlry between the two of us though. Any way just a heads up to anyone that owns a Honda too.

Wow, sorry to hear that!!! We have a G and an S, I’ve never heard of something like that happening, but we’ll definitely be really careful now. Has she talked to the dealer about getting it fixed?

It's actually at Honda right now. They gave us a code that involves turning the car on and off and taping the brake. You have to go to Honda with your regi and get it. It's good for one start, If the car stalls on the way to the dealer you have to get it towed. I think it's just gonna be a little reprograming so it shouldn't be too big a deal. But from what I hear if they need to replace those keys it's big bucks. Probably the same for us. I'll let you know how it goes.

 

thats pretty bizarre.. Its totally passive. its not like the GM cars where there are contacts involved. I bet something got deformed in the ignition.

Anyway the S is fixed. It was some loose wire or something....$150 later. Apparently the thing with the key does happen though just luckily not this time. Well problem sovled.

 

Good to hear that the key didn’t destroy anything, it’s a simple mistake that anyone could make. Sorry to hear that it still cost $150 to fix. At least everything is ok now!

It's cool Mr E. I didnt take any offence to it.. Funny thing about my mom is she bought the S2k cause she thought it was cute. She doesn't even know what a vtec is. Funniest thing she ever said to me was, "I took the S up to 7000 rpm today and wow." Of course I was laughing cause I was taking it up to 9k all night the night b4. it's goood though.

 

It shouldn't need a new key. They just need to clear the computer and have it relearn your existing keys. They probably asked you to bring all of your keys in.

This can happen to our G35's, as well. There's a TSB for it, even. If your key and another transponder key, or any other type of transponder (such as a key fob to get into the office building or a Mobil SpeedPass) is too close to the ignition, it'll confuse the computer. They recommend you keep them far apart, or on separate keychains. I don't think the G35 has the one-shot dance ritual, it has to be towed if the problem occurs.

I have a SpeedPass on my keychain, it hangs about 3" away from the ignition key, and doesn't seem to interfere.
