Gas mileage: at what point is the G "broken-in" ?
I've got 1,300 miles on my G. I'm wondering at what general mileage the engine will be considered broken-in, and my gas mileage will be at its peak.
I'm thinking 2-3k.
Thanks...

For me personally, my G was completely broken in at about 7-8k miles. It takes our engines some time to break-in I guess. Its only after those miles that I noticed the gas mileage pretty consistent.

I find my situation extremely interesting. I've had my 04 coupe for a bit over 2 1/2 years. At this point I have about 28K on it. My driving has been quite consistent back and forth to work with no extended trips (take the wife's ride). A 15 mile jount @ 75MPH each way. You could bank on the fact when I got to 300 miles on the tank of gas, my warning light would come on leaving me with about 3 gallons left. My gas mileage has been consistent at 18-19 MPG.
Two weeks ago I took the G on a trip and this was the first time I have driven an entire tank of gas in one shot. This was a 4-5 hour interstate ride @ 80 MPH. When I reached my destination I had gone 372 miles and still had over a quarter of a tank! Filled up and put 14.8 gallons in her. This equates to 25 MPG!
And the funny thing is, my fuel warning light is not coming on until around 340 miles now whereas for 2 years it came on at 300. My last two fillups since that trip have resulted in 22-24MPG. Go figure.

Lytefly,
Your situation is pretty similar to mine. I've had the 04 coupe for almost 2.5 years (just broke 15k miles). Driving daily to the train (about 3 miles roundtrip) and around-town driving, I get a paltry 15 mpg. When I hit the 225 mile mark, it's about time to find the gas station and put in the 14.5 gallons.
Just a few weeks ago, I took a 1000 mile trip, mostly highway, and I was shocked when I broke 370 miles on one tank, with about 1/4 tank left too. That trip averaged around 25 mpg. Back when I had 5k miles, I took a 2k mile trip, and averaged around 23.5 mpg. I'm pretty sure the engine has now settled into a comfortable range.

mileage
2005 6mt w/ 6000 miles.
16 miles city, 24 miles highway.
Trip to Vegas non-stop all freeway, then fill up. 24 MPG.
20 miles round trip everyday for work, all city, 16 MPG.
City driving, shifting at 4k. Must be the reason.

I have an '03 coupe. My gas milege significantly improved after about 28,000 miles. It went from about 15-18 in City driving to 20 mpg for the same driving. Quite a long break in!
Maybe its the sythetic oil that slowed the break in? But I only switched to it at 12,000 miles.

after a reasonable break-in, e.g. 7k, if you drive a distance, esp on a freeway and even at high speed, i have found that the mileage increases dramatically. under those conditions, i got 26 mpg; in the city, with daily commutes no longer than 7 miles and at variable speeds, i get 17 mpg.
I've noticed an increase in highway mileage lately. I have just over 13K on mine, a few weeks ago I went out to Vegas for the weekend, was doing about 85 through the desert, AC on full blast, got 26.8 for the trip! I got just under 26 on the way back. Around town its still around 17, but I should probably blame my lead foot for that...
