Fun w some volkswagons

Last night on my way home from dropping off my fiancee and her mother, I was cruising on the Palisades at about 70mph. I saw a fast approaching headlight so I moved to the right lane to let it past. Instead of passing it slowed, so I assummed it was to take a look at my G. A few seconds later, five identical cars like that, came up at a fast rate of speed. Turned out to be 6 volkswagon GTIs, each having its own unigue mods with at least two of them being identical. At first I thought they were being delivered to a dealership or maybe they were part of the local sewing club. Together they all sounded like a bunch of singer sewing machines. Then they started trying to coax me into a race. I had just got through telling my fiancee how drivers like to challenge this car because of it's rep, I had also just finished going through my break in period.
But I wasn't in the mood and had more fun watching these idiots trying to coax me into a race. With all of their mods the six of them together probably had 100 horses. If I wanted to, I could have beaten the whole string of them by double their six car lengths. Finally, I passed them all once and let them catch up, my point was proven. But they wanted more, so by my choice they passed on the right and one was in front of me in the left lane and the other on the side of him in the right lane. The other 4 cars were in the right hand lane. The two front cars would slow to about 20 and take off like rabbits while the others on the side would gun it. This went on for about ten minutes to my amusement. It was like having six little kids jumping up to fight me. I was so busy laughing in my G that I could'nt take it seriously. I kept waitng for smokey because I knew he hung out in this area, but he was no where to be found, but this at least made my day. BS/loaded except aero

Don't let that ego get too big there buddy. Those cars are very fast, esp. the 1.8 turbo. I have a few friends with them, all they do is chip it, put a 3" exhaust on, and that thing will waste our car. Mainly becuase of the power to weight ratio.

The 1.8 with a chip and exhaust is still slow.

Don't let your friends fool you into thinking that their cars are fast.

GTI’s or Jetta’s 1.8T with a simple chip and exhaust can’t beat a G.

Re: Fun w some volkswagons

bone stock our cars will kill them, but even with those simple mods, they can give us a run..

just like what naroktic said, the car is a lot lighter, so it doesn't need a lot of power to get going.. those cars, if modded right, can just flat out blow us away.. personalli i don't like golf drivers because the ones i've come in contact with are real cocky asses, but don't underestimate their cars..

Did the kids driving them look like those dorks that are typical in the Volkswagon commercials? (Talk about an ad campaign that turns me off to a car brand)

Actually GTi's weight a lot more then you guys think. Their weight is over 3100 pounds. I have to admit that the VW cars have exceptionally good torque; which can make the car seem faster but the downfall is the turbo lag. I have a 2002 New Beetle w/ Audi TT engine in it.

But when you pull into the driveway, one person is stepping out of luxury and the other is stepping out of some Kraut rice. I've never had a good experience with a VW owner with mods. I don't understand it either. In every single "rice" encounter, I've had thumbs up or big smiles whether I beat them or not. Not in the German cars, not even with my G - ESPECIALLY the BMW crowd, which just thinks their cars are the hottest [censored] on the road. Cocky mutherfukkers.

You are right, I have only met really cocky VW drivers. Their cars are fast but as for all german cars are too pricy, for that price I'll take my acura integra Type-R in Yellow, thanks, he he he, In-fact I'll take a Subaru WRX over any VW 1.8 turbos.

Re: Fun w some volkswagons

You're not wrong.... it takes more than a chip and exhaust to see 13's on those 1.8s.

Even the guys on the GTI forums will admit that.....

Re: Fun w some volkswagons

Damn you guys are fu#@ed up towards the 1.8T GTI. These are great cars considering their price and build quality. I would not even look at a integra type R, that car is giscusting with its oversized rear spoiler. Kind of pointless on a FWD car.
