Buying new Battery for G?

I am looking at getting a new starting battery, alongside one or two deep cycle batteries for my G's new audio system that will be pulling about ~150 amps on full volume....

Would this be a good starter battery, it has the poles reversed like i think our car's have.... could i use a non reversed one, i don't understand the difference between the two, besides aesthetics.

optima model 34 orange top

Any Thoughts?

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

If the poles are on opposite sides as the stock battery, then the battery cables may not reach the correct poles. I thought they were standardized, guess not.

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

I did some more research today and found that this is the correct battery for our cars, but that optionaly it is recommended to get an adapter that helps the battery sit more firmly in the car.....

OPTIMA Orangetop 34R Battery
OPTIMA Adapter Part # "242-0018"

I am also going to get:

OPTIMA Yellowtop D31A
-it would allow me to run my sound system straight off the battery only, for 15+ minutes at 150amps... and with the engine running that time should be much longer with the added energy from the alternator which only puts out around 120amps!

I also highly doubt i would be able to listen to the music and base that LOUD for any length of time.....

Hopes this helps someone else who is looking into batteries...

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

Can i use the YellowTop for the starter battery too?

I was going to put an Orangetop to replace the factory battery and a Yellowtop to be in the trunk with the audio system....

Should i just get yellowtops all around?

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

eric,

I don't know. Right now i am looking into getting the odyssey and see how it work. I know the optima yellow tops works good. But i am going to be the first to try odyssey. But if i am going with optima, i will go with the yellow top for sure. No point of getting anything below that.

You know what you should do, call optima up and ask them if the yellow top can fit in our car.

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

Optima Batteries are the best. THey run on gel unlike regular batteries that run on liquid. I remember i had a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited about 2 years ago, i was running atleast 5000 watts in the car. Plus 4 tvs. I took the car to vegas, and for some reason my car wouldnt start. Ohh by the way i live out in LA. But i was sayin i had AAA come out and give me a jump start. I remember my installer was telling me let the car be on for like 10 min before u turn it off. Well anyways i was leaving to go home from VEgas and made a pit stop half way. Just to be safe i stopped infront of a gas station. Turned off the car for about an hour and after an hour it started again.

These batteries are the best make sure you get the yellow bottom one, but had a clear case around it. Thats the one i had. you will get your moneys worth.

Good luck

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

Because of our pole reversal and i don't want to mess with lengthening the cables or doing any of that because i am busy enough i am going with the orange top to replace the main battery, and a yellowtop in the trunk to power the audio system!

Peace

I know you can check for batteries for your car you can call optima batteries and find out. Try that out.

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

Does anyone know the ratings for the stock G35 battery?

The only Optima Batteries I could find that has the posts in the correct location for our Gs are the 34R and 51R (R = reverse post).

The 34R Orange top (now a red top?) automotive starting battery looks good for large amp draws. It's rated at 55 ampere hours, 750 cold cranking amps, 980 cranking amps, 10-12,000 life cycles and 104 minutes reserve. It's rated for approx 50 deep cycles. Weighs 40lbs.

The 51R Yellow top marine deep cycle design has about 2/3 of the 34R's rating. It's rated at 41ampere-hours, 500 cold cranking amps, 625 cranking amps, 10-12,000 life cycles, a 70 minute reserve and is good for 350 deep cycles. Weighs 27lbs.

I believe all the other Optima batteries have the poles in the wrong location for our cars.

Re: Buying new Battery for G?

I had a yellowtop in my chevy silverado truck for a long time with a 1000 watt system/tv/mp3 player and it would go forever.. never had any problems, and the truck started no problem as well. (V8 compared to our v6). So i'm sure we'd have no problem turning our v6 over with any of the optima batteries.
