upgrade the argument to a manager. or Pm me and I will give you my name and you can call back to ICA and ask them why they covered mine but they wont cover yours.

For not much more than $1300, you could get a lightened flywheel and a better clutch and Press Plate. IF you have to pay for it, that is.

Heck there are a lot of posts where guys have had to replace the clutch at less than 15K! I'm with you, 56K is a bit short.

If the dealer doesn't want to deal with it, you can take the thing to a tranny place when you get a new clutch/flywheel and at the same time while they have everything taken apart, have them open up the tranny to change out the synchros. The synchro itself should be very cheap, a couple dollars or so a piece, if even that much.

Just got off the phone with a representative but they wont budge. I tried asking for a higher manager but their is not one on duty. So i gotta wait for the dealership and ICA to talk to each other. Sigh hopefully theyll replace it under warranty...

I know a thing or two about engines so this is really throwing me off!
How does a FLYWHEEL wear out? It's a weight and that is it. It helps to smooth things out and does a few other things but really all it does is SPIN!
Please educate me as I don't see how a flywheel can wear out.
Flywheels can warp, and get some serious hot spots in them which make clutch engagement very un-pleasent, so yes they can wear out. But the only real reason a clutch would have something to do with gears being notchy is if the clutch is not fully dis-engageing when depressed.

And BTW, how are you guys going through so many trannys? Is the 2005 tranny just that much better? I have 35k miles on mine with no issues whatsoever.

If you're not grinding, then it just might be the clutch bearing... if that's the case, you should be getting some chatter noises here and there too. And the fix for that would be a new clutch and disc...

I would watch them remove it (they could switch it out with a bad one) and make them give you the parts. Have a third party inspect them. Be sure you tell them this BEFORE they start.

I am a little late to this thread but I can tell you for sure it has nothing to do with your flywheel. I just had this battle with my dealer a few months back with ~47k on my car. With 56k they do not have to replace your clutch or flywheel for you and would be doing a big favor if they did. Try to fight it but remember they are not required to since they are wear items.

The flywheel needs to be replaced because it is dual-mass and very hard to machine. Over time flywheels get hot-spots, imperfections and become uneven. If you do not repair these problem areas your next clutch will slip more and wear out much faster. If we had a single piece flywheel then it could be machined and re-used. If the wear is minor you may be able to find a shop that can fix it for you but the dealer is not going to be happy about waiting while you go out and do it.

They typically charge between $1100 and 1200 plus another hundred or so install for a new flywheel. My dealer wanted $1600 for the flywheel and clutch, I was able to find an oem flywheel online for ~$800 but did not get it. I had already purchased a UR flywheel and just rushed over a JWT clutch. They installed them for me. I was happy since they did have enough reason to not even give me a new tranny since I have so many mods.
