Re: Lights - the final answer!

Hey peoples.
I am heavily involved in the LED industry and I thought you might like to know that the LED's used in products such as PIAA only cost .40-.60 cents each. I wonder if the LED housing can justify charging $50-60 a pair...NOT!

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Rever, they cost $10 - $20 per pair, not $50 - $60. For someone self-proclaimed as being "heavily involved in the LED industry" you don't seem to have relevant information as such close "involvement" would expect. Care to explain? Otherwise, your opinions are promptly brushed aside.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Shader7,
That's right I'm am "heavily involved in LED". My focus was on the LED alone.
Ya, I had a brain fart and typed the wrong price from a website, my mistake. I hit the pricing for the H4 bulbs. The price for a pair of PIAA LED bulbs was about $18. At $1-2 in LED (on a consumer level) does that justify $18?
...I guess it could just be basic econ - Price Vs. Demand.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Rever, what are those of us without any involvement with LEDs supposed to do? Will you provide us with what we are looking for at a better price? Will someone else? I haven't found anyone. And apparently, a lot of other haven't. So we are left with the current solution we have.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Here's another contribution. I added these bulbs to my coupe clearance lights and clear corners last week. Im including a before shot for comparison to stock. I've got a pair of 6000k Ultinon HID bulbs on the way, so I'll add pics of those next week.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Afr0,
Since reading this I've been thinking of making a proposal to give someone I know that could manufacture the parts. My goal would be to hit the $10-15/pr range and meet/exceed the brightness that of companies such as PIAA.
What do you think?
Is the market already saturated?

Re: Lights - the final answer!

it would be great if you could also make LED replacements for some of the other bulbs. for starters, I'd really like a brighter LED bulb for my REVERSE light and maybe some of the interior lights (trunk light and kick panel light)

I'm not sure what types of bulbs they take, but I think they are T20 and or W168.
this thread should probably cover some of that info as well

Re: Lights - the final answer!

A special thanks to all who posted here...Lots of information regarding the lighting on our cars. I ordered clear corners and Piaa Exreme White bulbs for both clearance strips and corners as well...even though the pics probably did not depict the "true color" of each of the type bulbs...It gave me a pretty good idea of what I wanted on my coupe...Thanks again to everyone ..once I get some warm weather and get it all installed I will try to post pics as well......20ld4this
A special thanks to Import warehouse.com I got my bulbs in one day/////fantastic service////
