Fuel Gauge Accuracy

I noticed that when I filled up gas tank yesterday the gauge showed 1/8 tank remaining, but I was hard pressed to even squeeze in 13 gallons. With a 20 gallon tank, I should have been able to pump in 17.5 gallons. I have an '04 Coupe. Any problems with the fuel gauge I should know about. Trying to keep list of any annoyances before I take to dealer in month or so. If any bulletins, please provide link. Thanks!

Re: Fuel Gauge Accuracy

On mine when the empty light comes on there are still about 4 gallons left in it. I always get 10 gallons of 94 at the gas station, that brings the nedle to a bit past half. I dont think its verry acurate, but at least it shows less that more, so you dont run out of gas.

Re: Fuel Gauge Accuracy

Almost EVERY car ever made has misleading fuel gauge accuracy. This is so us dumb drivers don't run the car down to E, then run out of gas. THere will always be at least a couple of gallons left when you hit E.

The best you can do is note when the low fuel warning light comes on, then fill up and note how much left is in your tank. If its 2 gallons, then you know that next time the warning comes on.

Re: Fuel Gauge Accuracy

There's no accuracy at all in our gas gauges. When my low fuel light comes on it takes only 14 to 15 US gallons. When it says half tank, it takes on about 8 US gallons.
Some of our members have noted that their gauge doesn't show full when in fact it is.
Can't trust the gauge at all.

Re: Fuel Gauge Accuracy

For those with Navi, you can't trust the "Miles to empty" very much either. I've driven 30 miles after it read "****", pulled in to fuel up, and pumped in 18.6 gallons. That is the most I have ever seen it take.
