So i was bored and i was reading the manual. They suggest that you shift from 1-2 at 8mph. Are they searoius? I mean our speedomiter dont even show until it hits 10mph. Am i reading it wrong?

BTW: At what speed do you shift from 1-2 and from 2-3 on a regular normal driving basis? Im still trying to figure this car out. Im getting some crappy gas mileage. I dont know if its because my car has not finish brekaing in for what. I am trying to shift from gear to gear at every 2-2.5rpm.

Thank you for reading.

Re: recommended mph

I rarely look at my speedo anymore. I did for about the first 2-3 weeks so I could figure out my rpm-mph. I shift at 3-3500 under normal conditions and cruise from 2-2500. Your engine doesn't know mph but it knows rpm. I really wish we had the setup like the RX8 (I think the z has it too). Center mounted tach with a digital speedo.

3rd at 2500 is about 34mph
4th at 2500 is about 42mph
5th at 2500 is about 57mph
6th at 3000 is about 84mph

Those are my cruising speeds depending on the speed limit.

Every manual transmission car is different, you just get the "feel" for it over time.

If you want good gas mileage, shift at low RPMs (like the manual suggests).

If you want more power, shift at higher RPMs.

Its that simple - shift wherever you feel comfortable. If this is your first manual, don't worry - it'll be second nature after awhile.

Re: recommended mph

I've been shifting at about 4k (or just under) since I bought it. I enjoy the exhaust sound at that range. Was that OK for break in?
