header rasp?

i just got my top speed headers put on (everything else stock, ztube popcharger and spacer) and i was wondering if anyone else got a rasp. when its cold its pretty bad but when it warms up it gets somewhat better but still there...could an exhaust leak cause a rasp? if anyone else encountered this problem, what might the remedy be? any help would be much appreciated

thanks,
you fellow g who HATES rasp

yes, the exhaust leak could cause the noise. Did you replace the gaskets? Even if you didnt replace the gaskets it should be ok, but you should replace them and also just make sure the bolts are torqued to the right specs. Call the dealer for the torque specs and buy a toque wrench unless you already have one and then basicly you can get er done!

i used the new gaskets, however i didnt measure the lbs torqued down....just tightened until tight enought to feel comfortable about driving with them. i know a leak causes a noise, i had one on my mustang, however i was wondering if a leak can also cause a rasp?

thanks for the reply

a leak will cause a TIC TIC TIC sounds

I get some rasp after a cold start, but it goes away after a minute or driving.

im' pretty sure it's caused from a matching of headers w/ stock catback....those who replace the catback seem to loose the rasp completel.y

thanks for the replys...i fixed the problem....running a loose y pipe (where in connects with the midpipe) will cause a nice deep sound with rasp at 2500-3500 rpm...it did sound nice minus the rasp.... oops!

i just changed my mid pipe..so could my rasp be because the bolts arent torqued to the right specs? im assuming i need an in-lbs torque wrench..gotta get me one of those

but before i buy can anyone confirm that i need an in-lbs torque wrench? dont feel like buyin it if i dont need it..

and what are the "specs" that i tighten the bolts at?

well like i told you hero, with exhuast, i'd tighten everything down until i feel like it wouldn't fall off. i've had problems where i've tighten to specs only to have the nut come loose (the wheels to be exact...not cool at all). so better to tighten down and make sure its on there tight. want to make things safe for you and other drivers as well. the last thing people need to worry about is things flying off of your car.

and anything with exhuast, i would think you would need a ft-lb wench, not in-lb.
