I worked in a VW dealership for a lil while (part of my job) and i see plenty of brand new VWs coming in for various services and repairs. to me it was rediculous coming from owning hondas and NEVER had problems.
one thing i do have to agree though is that BMW is much better engineered than our G35s.. but then again, well-engineered cars dont mean "reliable" cars. they are two different things.
Porches have amazing engineerings, but they are not reliable and have NEVER been reliable vehicals (so are Ferraris and all the "exotics"). but i'll still trade my arm, leg, and left nut for an F430!!

It's no secret that the electronics are the weak spot of any German car. The reason why the e60's and e90's fail is because of all the gadgets they fit into these cars, Microsoft's got nothing on an SMG, iDrive-equipped car, but that has nothing to do with the M3 vs G35 discussion. Let's be fair and do a search on transmission/clutch replacements on g35driver, then do the same search on the M3 forums. Search on faulty gas tank sensors, bad window motors, soft paint, creaks and rattles on g35driver, then do the same search on the M3 forums. Then tell me which one is worse. I know you love your G35 and that you like to think that Japanese cars are far more reliable than German, but you have to call a spade a spade, neither is perfect. 2 fresh examples from this week alone, Lexus is giving a friend of mine a brand new replacement for his '07 ES350 after his transmission failed with only 2,000 miles on the car... This morning my co-worker's Acura MDX stranded her for 2 hours on the side of the road. So trashing German cars and claiming that Japanese cars have better engineering is ridiculous to say the least.

again, dont u think a Ferrari and Porche is VERY WELL engineered? yet, they are never reliable cars. why is that? they are great performance cars and pretty much purposely built as sports cars, but not reliable daily drivers such as a civic or camery.
when i think of engeneering, i think of mostly mechanical things. engine, performance, handling, etc..
now, most cars today when they have problems, more than likely it's something computer related. thats whats killing the German cars. Merc and BMW used to be VERY reliable cars (believe it or not), but with their modern technologies, just so many things go wrong. however, a BMW still drives like a bmw, still one of the best mechanically sound car u can buy.
do you think a civic and camery is well engineered? they are not built to be real sports cars, and i can garantee you that they are not as sophisticated as a M3, or porche or Ferrari in any way, yet they will always be 1000X more reliable than any sports cars you can find.
