Couple genius questions! and a story..

injen CAI or Hi flow air box?
Also they guy from stillen said there true dual cat back is way better then borla? did he say this b/c he is a stillen sales rep?

Super Charger?
comes with a 36,000 mile warrenty on the motor? Any of you guys thinking of obtaining the extra 60 hp and i dont like the kit they include for the hood.. looks kinda of nasty was thinking if there are other options or kits..

Today i was at a light with an RSX he blew me away...
1. if ur gonna race with the AT tranny is it better to leave it on Drive or to go manual(i left it in drive)
I was so dispointed with my coupe.. so i said ok time to get the goods.. his car sound like it had an exaust and an intake.. is this normal for the RSX to smoke the G?

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

normally, rsx can't beat us... best rsx-s time is around 14.8 and most people get around 15.2 or so... even cl or tl-s will beat them.. however i think the one u raced might have i/h/e and ECU upgrade... cuz with those mods, rsx-s will run 14.0... and rsx-s is really good at get along with mods...

RSX Type-S's aren't all that bad, but you are at a disadvantage with an automatic.

You might want to look into the Borla Dual Exhaust and the Injen CAI. Of course companies will throw higher claims for their products, but in all honesty some difference between exhausts from company to company will be hardly noticeable, if at all to the general public.

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

leaving it in drive works if you are flooring it, but if not then it might not have shifted at redline which would be the reason you lost... putting it in the manumatic mode ensures you have control of the rev and shift points... but it sounds like his RSX was heavily modded, which is why you lost...

how fast did you get up to though? The RSX will probably have a better jump off the line but it shouldn't win out by the time you get to 3rd...

Stock RSX are not that fast, Raced many and never lost. But I saw one with a T3 turbo that had faster 1/4 mile times than I did. I asked the dude what he was pushing at the wheels, he said 232 at the front wheels, some what what we are getting, but they are lighter.

Yea, maybe you got unlucky and hit a RSX with mods. I beat my good friends Type S all the time... Until he gets a turbo ...

i don't think he is at a disadvantage with an automatic... i found that usually AT wins on the streets( such as if you stopped at hills or somethin manual will move few inches back while auto just take off)... if he lost to that rsx-s(more than 2+ car lenth) then most likely MT g will lose either...

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

I'm surprised no one brought this up, or maybe no one knows but that the Stillen Superchager DOES NOT come with a 36k mile warranty. It's an OPTION you need to purchase, and quite honestly a fairly expensive one. It's offered through Dell (yes the computer people) and it is limited coverage which means, there's gonna be a LOT of fine print of what is and what's not covered under what may be a ton of situtations.

Stillen is also in the works of a one piece custom fiberglass and carbon fiber hood for the G35 for use with the charger, priced from $500 to $900, which would be an alternative to the bolt on piece they're selling.

The Stillen cat back system uses TWO cans, and Borla uses a single muffler. In theory, using seperate cans eliminates unwanted exhaust wave "clashing" from each engine bank. Is it better, well yes (on higher output engines), but will it make more power for our G's vs a single, not really.

Injen or high flow air box, bottom line is not what will make more power becouse they both will essentially give ya the same (never constant from engine to engine, more a driver factor) but what is important, how much time are you willing to give up for regular cleanings and maintence, as the Injen CAI needs CONSTANT cleaning, thanks to the fact that it gets hit with just about everything on the road, not to mention if you use it in the rain. Its a great unit, but a real pain in the ***. I find myself cleaning and reoiling my Injen CAI filter at least every two to three week (living in NY).

Lastly, I've had quite a few RSX's "try" and pull leads on my G, but none have been able to without cheating in one way or the other, and by cheating I'm sure you guys know what I mean. ***** take the shoulder, jump exit ramps, blow lights, cut others off, just stupid [censored]! Once they see they can't hang, what happens next is like text book. I've kind of gotten use to it....

hey Aldo, how badly did you lose by and what speed did you get up to?

I'd be really depressed if I got beat by an RSX... even with i/h/e...
did you hear anything funny like a turbo?

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

remember we are not at the tracks... what i meant by advantage over MT are not in performance wise.. maybe i should clarify this.. what i meant was, on the streets, you need to pay attention to so many other thigs than just shift right at redline such as, cop might suddenly show up, or some car might cut right front of you.. next light might change to yellow suddenly... at the track, no one will interrupt you but on the streets, there are hundreds of things will interupt you... that's why i said AT has more advantage to concentrate to other things without worrying about shifting gears hit the rev limitiers...

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

I am pretty sure that the borla system is a "true" dual system. I know that it looks like there is one muffler but I am 99.9% sure that it is split inside. However the Stillen system looks a hell of a lot nicer and I believe that the power gains are higher. Of course I am not completly sure due to the highly gaurded secrets of the "Exhaust Dyno Shootout" but I think it looks a hell of a lot better anyway.

As far as the RSX goes that thing is a friggin meat wagon. I've smoked em left and right no problem. Sure you could make one faster than the G but it's still an RSX aka really nice civic IMO.

The only car that I've seen that is "almost" in the same caliber as the G that impressed me was the turbo IS that I saw tonight with a roll cage in it. Thing sounded friggin MEAN! but even those you should be able to smoke no problem as long as they're still NA.

Last thing, if your looking for some FI chek out the ATI Procharger setup. No hood cowl needed! Very nice gains. If you want to see A nice setup go to Freshalloy.com and look for "Theeggmans" coupe. VERY SWEET!

Thats all Good luck with your setup. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

Couple answers:

1. David Borla said that his Borla exhaust is way better than the Stillen (horsepower, weight, and cost). I wouldn't throw full faith behind the opinions of the guys selling the process. What's undeniable is that the Borla costs and weighs less and the Stillen looks better. The horsepower numbers have been all over the place though, and the sound is subjective. Personally, I'd base your decision first on which sound your prefer and second on cost.

2. Racing the AT. First, while most AT cars are faster in "Drive" than in "Manumatic" mode, the G35 Coupe is one of the exceptions. Most of us who take the AT to the strip get much faster times in MM. Second, if your car is relatively new and you've been following the break-in instructions, you're going to need to disconnect your battery for a day and wipe the computer's memory of all that timid driving, or it will try to imitate it when you want to go fast. Third, turn off your air conditioning, turn off your VDC (middle button on your lower left), turn off the stereo, turn off the fan or seat heater, turn off the fog lights, close up the Nav, and dim the interior lights. They all suck power to some extent. Fourth, close the windows and sunroof. They create drag. Lastly, before the start, hold the brake with your left foot while applying light pressure the gas pedal. This is called powerbraking or torquebraking, and will give you a better launch. However, you should avoid revving beyond 2500 rpms while holding the brake, and preferably do it only just before the light changes. This technique creates alot of strain on your transmission and WILL damage it if you do it too frequently or abusively. And you certainly shouldn't need to stoop to that to beat an Acura. The first two points should be sufficient to accomplish that.

Re: Couple genius questions! and a story..

Thanx alot guy your replys were really helpful...

As for sounds i heard from the RSX was just loud.. defintely had an intake and exaust.. no i didnt hear turbo or nas for that matter but it beat me by like 4 cars....
it was from a red light... i couldnt catch up to it..

I think i really need to reset my ECU because im noticing that the car is slower then when i first got it...

Is there an ECU you can buy for this car to help performance so you dont have to reset the ecu so much..

Oh and some one asked how fast i was going i hit like 76-77 befor i just said forget it i got smoked.. then i looked at my cars beautiful body and felt way good ... lol
