if you want to shift smoother from 1-2 gears, you may want to give it more gas when shifting into 2nd gear. i had the same problem.. then finally figuered it out.. hope this helps. takes some practice to get it right.. feels like you're giving gas before engaging into 2nd gear.. not sure if that makes sense.. lol

i've tried something very similar. right when you're about to start letting the clutch pedal out, start getting on the gas. but this may cause premature wear on the clutch.

I just got my 6MT G35 about 1 week ago, and all I can say is holding the clutch at the friction point really helps alot (to be even smoother, I give it more gas simultaneously). Sure its giving it more wear, but its nothing thats going to be a problem in the short term. Im sure most of you people wont have the G long enough to even notice any problems due to this wear (we americans switch cars about every 5 years... amazing)

PS. Oh and im completely new to driving stick

Tranny problems???

Rough shifting aside - has anyone else had "ODD" sounds coming from their tranny at low 1st gear speeds? I spoke to my local Infiniti dealer and he said that they would replace my transmission for me. This leads me to beleive that they know something I don't about the '06 coupe transmissions. Thoughts???

I'm not sure what odd sounds you are referring to, but I can hear almost everything that is going on w/ the transmission. Like you can hear the plates clanking when the windows are rolled down.

It also makes funny smells on hard launches, hahah.

I also have this issue. I thought at first that it was because I wasn't used to the new transmission. But now 5 months later I know that wasn't the case. Whenever I miss a shift it's always a 1-2 shift. If it was my sloppy *** shifting I would miss other shifts, and it doesn't have to be spirited driving either. There is something wrong with it, but I'm not sure what.

My hunch is that some -- maybe most -- of the problem with smooth takeoffs and shifts is that the engagement range of the clutch is too short. One cure for this would be to fit a larger diameter slave cyl. or a smaller master cyl. Anyone tried this?

Cool

took me a little while to get use to 1-2 shifts. Coming from a 3000GT, where I thought the clutch was touchy, the G35 is a different car! In most situations, I just start off in 2nd gear... 1st gear is for the weeners that want to test my 6MT!

I drive her hard.

i go 1st to 3rd to 5th all day long.

in stop and go traffic i will go from 1st to second to 4th.

my tranny stinks during hard launches too. i have heard a few noises from her when letting off the cluch pedal. Sounds like a knocking sound occasionally. I think this is actually coming from the VSLD.

my .02, i feather going into second. I am well aware that it will cause premature wear, but I think that is a small price to pay for a more comfortable ride. Besides, I will undoubtedly end up upgrading it sometime next spring after I put on a stillen s/c.

i wouldnt say that youl be sorry, just as long as you dont drive anybody elses car that has a vortech or other FI. from what i understand, the stillen produces the lowest numbers of all FI.

I'm confused -- why do you refer to "FI?" I assume that means fuel injection? The reason I opted for the Stillen blower was to get more low end torque. Is this not the case?
