G35 1-2 shift?

Okay, what the hell! I thought maybe I was rusty and forgot how to drive manual smoothly when I got my 6mt G35 Coupe. Well, I just drove my GF's VW R32 and I didn't give shifting a second thought, it was very natural and smooth from 1-2. Now I am a bit pissed about the G.

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND FIGURED OUT? Yeah, I can do it smoothy if I go slow but try and go fast and it sucks.

feather the clutch more than normal (meaning let it slip a bit more than you normally would)

Im not trying to start a war, and this is NOT aimed at you uber... but why are there so many "shifting" posts on here? ive noticed that some people that are saying that they have a "rough shift" have been members for a year or two. leading me to believe that theyve had thier cars for just as long. how long does it take to figure it out? its really not that hard. i dunno, maybe its just me..

the stick on the coupe is not easy to drive, plain and simple.

Since I have no problems with the shifting from 1st to 2nd, I'm also puzzled by how many members of this forum complain about how hard it is. My expectation is that some Gs have problems but most don't.

I was a little jerky at first (had not driven stick for years). It was funny, the harder I tried to make a smooth sift the worse it was. When I didn't think about it, it was smooth as glass. That was low speed. High speed was never a problem.

Its the design of the car, really has nothing to do with the driver. This trannys is one of the jerkiest when it coems to 1-2, unless you do it slow.

i personally disagree. IMO any stick takes a little getting used to, but after 50-100 miles of city driving, you should have it down.

I've never driven anything but a manual transmission for 20 years and it took me about 800 miles to get used to this clutch and transmission. It just has a different feel, I don't know how to explain it but I think if you overthink it you don't shift as smooth. I alternate driving a jeep wrangler and the G35 and it takes a few minutes to adjust. Just keep driving and be patient, you will get it.

yeah, thats a good point. when you switch back and fourth betweet sticks, it may fool you once or twice. but after a minute you should have it down.

Took me a little while to figure this out. Other thing I do is I let the RPM's drop a bit more before letting off the clutch from 1-2 compared to any other gear (750 rpm drop as opposed to say 500 rpm) So if I shift at 3000 I let off the clutch at 2250 or just feather the clutch a bit.

Other thing to do is shift above 4500 rpm (that seems to be another way to get a smooth shift)

i'll admit i havnt owned a stick in about 4 years, but i do drive them at work alot and i never have any problems....the clutch on the g is a lil harder to get used to then most. im going on my second week with the car now and i pretty much got it down at any speed....once ina while ill still get a lil jerk but usually its fine.
