Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
So, basically im buying (actually leasing) a 2004 G35 late this year, and im torn. The coupe is a better looking car, is faster, and from what i have read, is an overall sportier car. The sedan is a little cheaper (not really significant), but has the extra two doors, but what im wondering is, does the coupe have a good amount of space in the rear for passengers? Ive been in 3-series convertibles and they barely have any room, as is the case with CLK's, so is the G this way too? Can 4 full grown adults be in the car, relatively comfortabaly? Also, does the coupe have a sportier feel to it?
Re: Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
Well it depends on what type of people are riding with you. The coupe has space in the back better than the bimmer. Anyone more than 5'10" in the rear and your passengers head will be hitting the glass in the rear. The coupe will always look sportier than a sedan, but I don't really know about the sportier feel. If you are a family man then a sedan is for you. If it's just you and the wife I recommed the coupe.

Re: Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
I was going for the sedan since I have a wife and 2 kids, then a coupe passed me on the highway.
I took a 10 hour trip from FL to VA with 2 adults in the back seat, no complaints. But as stated above, they were under 5'10".

Re: Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
This is all good news, becuase most people i know are around 5' 10". I want the coupe, but its the other family mebers that want the sedan. Just veryifying though, the coupe is faster than the sedan correct? Im comparing 5AT on both models.
Re: Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
I have the same dilema with my family and the coupe. The 6 M.T. sedan is slightly faster than the 6 M.T. coupe due to the lighter weight, The auto coupe is faster than the auto sedan but these times are hardly noticeable unless you take it to the track and see the times. I like the practicality of the sedan, but I love the looks of the coupe, I know it's a tough choice isn't it.
Re: Sedan/Coupe...what to chose
Actually the fastest I’ve seen for the coupe in a magazine was 5.5s to 60 and ¼ in 14.2s and 5.6s to 60 and ¼ in 14.3 for the sedan. The same with the AT’s, the coupe is about a tenth or two faster to 60 and the ¼ mile than the sedan.
But in real world driving you probably couldn’t tell the difference between the two unless if you were racing side by side, but again it wouldn’t be a big difference then the HP’s differences suggests.

I think the question lay not in speed, but the handling characteristics. You got a much sportier feel in your coupe versus the feel of sedan, Sedan is much more pratical. You sacrifice the styling however. Um.. A note on the 5'10.. I think its a few inches shorter than that actually, if you sit straight up. leg room and shoulder room is pretty good for a 2+2 though.

I really don't think the back seat should be used by any male adult or large female for more than a short ride to the bars or wherever you go. I had a mustang GT for years and dealt with a small back seat and two doors. It sucked. I definitely agree the 2 door coupe is much better looking and more HP and better handling.
However, I'm 25 and started to want something a little classier looking for business and I wanted something that would be great for trips with friends to Vegas and stuff.
All in all, I'm very happy with the 4 door. It's really nice for the extra room. I'm single and don't have any kids and I still bought the sedan. If you're buying a car with performance being 90% of your motivation than get the coupe.
For me though, I wanted comfort, luxory sedan feel, performance so I thought the sedan was a better fit for that.

The coupe and a sedan with sport suspension share the same sway bars, strut valving and for all practical purposes the spring rates are the same. The coupe springs are shorter, giving the coupe a lowered center of gravity, and thus the usual benefits that brings about. So yes it should feel better, but nothing dramatically different, the specs don't support that. And my test drives didn't really reveal any notiable difference, other than being able to utilize the coupes LSD. Other than that I found no real handling difference. Compaired to how the Z felt, I found a world of difference, being that I vastly prefer the Z's much stiffer struts and the things they deliver. That is why I equipped my sedan with 350Z springs and struts (but the bouce they have is a negitive).
Another thing to add to this is the fact that the rear side windows in the coupe offer allot less visibility vs the sedan, so on long drives rear passengers will tend to feel more shut in. It was something my kids immediatly complained about in the coupe.
One thing, IMO that is timeless and unchanging. The coupe really is a much better looking car. Infiniti, please give the sedan the coupes front end. I really don't like the looks of my sedan's front end, again IMO.
One things for certain, both are really great cars.
