Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
I completely agree with Aldo420 on this one...he couldn't have said it best. Driving my car makes me feel great and I have a lot of fun, so I don't mind the bad gas mileage. I know I can drive with a lighter foot and get better gas mileage, but why??? I don't mind paying a little extra at the pump because I have so much fun when I am out on the road. Jesus f*ck I am losing my mind...it's only 1.5 days since I haven't had my car and I'm already longing for it. =(
Anyways, back to gas mileage issue, I think my gas mileage of 18mpg will get better after a few thousand more miles (2,350 on the odometer), that's the experience I have had with other cars.

35mpg? That's amazing....you're going to be getting half that with your G, but it is worth it. The G does things your Saturn doesn't even dream about (don't take that as an insult, it wasn't meant that way, heh).

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
I get about 23 mpg daily driving. Half highway and half city. I was getting about 19 when I first got the car. I have almost 12,000 miles on it now. My highway mileage is close to 30 mpg.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
No, Aldo420, what is dumb is a 6 cylinder getting such bad mileage.
I have a AT coupe with about 5500 mi. and I consistantly get about 16mpg. This is **** poor for a V6. Doing the same daily drive in my prior car, a BMW 540, which is a V8, I averaged 18 mpg.
The G's gas mileage is the furthest off from the claimed EPA mileage of any car I have ever owned.
Obviously if you are racing around and always flooring the car you can understand bad mileage, but I think most people on here are complaining about poor mileage in normal daily driving situations. I suspect that those of us getting low mileage are probably driving in city traffic alot, and those claiming mileage in the 20's are probably doing mostly freeway driving in no traffic.
I do love my G, but the mpg should be better.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
I've pretty much got a 70/30 split of city/hway, and I'm averaging up to 20 per tank. I'm not sure why, I don't exactly baby the car and the places I usually drive are riddled with stop signs and lights, not to mention 35mph speed limits. What can cause such a major difference between us? The only thing I can naturally assume would be driving habits, but then again no one likes to hear that... so, then what?

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
I get about 250 miles and have a 1/4 tank left... with my Nissan Sentra which I had before this, I got 250 miles with a 1/4 left..... difference? 11 gallon Sentra & 20 gallon g35... So I paid between 12 & 14 dollars for the 87 fuel in my sentra and paid 20 & 22 dollars for the 93 fuel in my g35... I'd have to say that difference is definately worth it for a g35 .... If you'd rather be driving a 95 sentra and paying 8 dollars less gas a week, then be my guest, it's for sale :P. But as for me, I'll take one less trip to McDonalds a week and pay the extra :P

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
I seriously think some G's have a "MPG problem" and others don't. I'm in the 22-25MPG camp as are many others. But a few unfortunate souls are much less.
Maybe some kind of manufacturing defect? Faulty oxygen sensor. Anyone with lower MPGs dyno their car? Maybe there's a difference somewhere....

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
Yeah, I think I have been cursed with one of the poor gas mileage G's. I average 18mpg (19mpg at best) if I'm real careful, but more like 17mpg when I am having fun. I know it is below the estimate and I drive around with my navi screen up displaying my fuel economy, so I do realize and care that I get poor gas mileage, but whenever I get to the gas station and really pay the price, it doesn't seem so bad. I pay around $20-$25 for gas, it's nothing that drains my wallet (as opposed for a pickup truck or a huge SUV that needs $50 to fillup the tank).

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
Interesting little experiment:
I know my gas mileage around Indianapolis. I get ~21-22mpg with my city/hway driving habits.
On the way down to Nashville, I set cruise control at 71 going through southern Indiana, and I got 27.8mpg. When I hit Kentucky, I reset it and got 25.0, when I hit Tenn. I reset it again, and I got 26.9. I then reset it again once I got to Nashville, and drove about 200 miles in the five days that I was there... I reset my gas mileage each day, and I averaged 17.2 with just "general" driving down there (to the movies, visiting friends, dinners, a trip to CC)
So... why do I get significantly better gas mileage in Indianapolis than in Nashville? It's a hilly city, yes, and it's pi$$-poorly designed, so there are stop-lights on top of stop-lights on top of stop signs... Also, the hilly stretch of 65 in KY netted poor results, as did the nothern portion of TN.
Draw your own conclusions... I made sure I made this as scientific as possible without having to actually get **** or anything... I drew 5 samples in Nashville, and two from each stretch of 65 (there and back). Difference in conditions was negligible (weather, road surfaces, etc.)

You hit it right on the head. I know this is a sports car and I don't mind paying for a little extra gas to get my thrills, but the kind of mileage I'm getting is what I should be getting if I'm pounding on the car constantly, not just driving easy around town. I'll admit I do 80% in-town driving also, but I should be getting much better mileage than this: 'went only 186 miles last week and it took 12.9 gallons to fill the tank back up (do the math)! Am I driving a V-6 or a V-12 here?

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
Well, the BMW 540i puts out 282hp or 290hp (depending on model year), which is similar to the G's 280hp. My point is that the G's V6 works as hard as a lot of V8 engines. Here is another example, the 3.2L I6 of the BMW M3 only gets 16mpg city and 24mpg highway. It does poorly because the engine is always working so hard (at around an 11:1 compression ratio). The G35 Coupe's poor gas mileage is deserved. If you want something sporty and economical, look into the Acura RSX Type-S or the VW with the 1.8T motor. But those motors will never match the torque of our 3.5 liter V6.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr
I did notice that people using 91 vs 93 seem to be getting better milage.
Is this the case?
Also is it the case that the 03.5/04 are getting better than the 03.
I think it is also the case that the longer you own the car the better the MPG
I am getting 20-22 around town.
I had a 93 J30t which had a 3.0 ltr 210 HP motor that got 21
I now own a car that has 50 more HP and lots more low end torque and get equal to or better MPG.
I have no reason to complain.
YOu want to complain own a oddge Grand Caravan with the 3/8 liter. Can never get better than 17 mpg iaround town. Old 3.3 liter version got 20 around town. The 3.8 gets 22-23 hwy where the 3.3 got 26 hwy
These engines are notorious for bad MPG
I wish I could put the G engine in the minivan.
Have a healthy day!
