Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr

With about 2100 miles now, I'm still right at 24-25 mpg on average. This seems to be the same regardless of my driving style. Its amusing actually...I'll have been driving like a granny for 100 miles, then if I'm so inclined, I'll pick up the pace and drive swiftly in the hilly curvy roads around here and maybe pass a few rigs on the long slow straightaways (no illegal passes). After 15 minutes I popup the NAV and its still reads like 24.x mpg. No kidding.

Also, to the fella that mentioned hills as a cause of poor mileage....well, I have to disagree. I live in southeastern Tennessee and we do have hills. In fact, I took a week long vacation in the Smokie Mt.'s and I kid you not, the gas mileage was 24.9 mpg that week while climbing hills and using a lot of 4th gear up the steeper hills.

I do think some of our cars get better average mpg than others but as for why I have not yet determined. I am taking a trip to Atlanta later this week. I may try putting in some 91 octane instead of 93 and see what that does.

No gsg... says it right on the window befor you buy your car what type of mileage it gets... LOL so what if its a 6 cylinder, look at the bmw M3. I think my friend gets 12-13 miles a gallon. This is a sports car if your extremely concerned with gas mileage you should have nvr purchased it.. 3.5 V6 is a big engine.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr

What window sticker are you looking at?? My window sticker sure doesn't say 16 mpg! And no, a 3.5 liter is not a big engine.
As I said I have a BMW 540 with a V8 (4.4 liter) that gets better mileage and it certainly is as fast or faster than the G. For that matter, my muscle car (a 1970 Mustang with a 351) gets close to this range. So my point is a modern V6 should do a lot better. I'm not concerned about gas cost (as evidenced by my other cars being V8's); I just think 16 mpg is low for a V6.

Now, some people are reporting getting up to 25 mpg. Why the hugh difference? I think part of the mileage difference between all of the posters here maybe has to do with the gas available in certain parts of the country and traffic conditions. I'm in LA, we only get 91 octane here (not 93 like I see others mention) and the traffic is certainly worse than most other places. So that is certainly a big factor. But 16 mpg under any circumstances is not good for a 6 cylinder. I bet a Corvette Z06 gets around this mileage.

Good point. Did I mention I'm using Chevron 93 octane gas, not some sh*tty generic gas, and I'm still getting this p*ss poor mileage?

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr

This doesn't make any sense. The range of gas mileage here is somewhere between 13 and 26 depending on driving conditions. This is too drastic a difference no matter what type of gas you use. Traffic will play into this some, but not to make that much difference. There has to be a problem with some of the cars. Has anyone actually talked to Infiniti Service Reps?

I only use 93, too...

Renegar- yeah, I really couldn't see any discernable difference between the two locations other than hills and city design. You've got to admit Nashville is possibly one of the most horridly designed cities on earth. When I drive into town, my navi looks like the screen is cracked or broken because lines just go everywhere in every direction... in Indy, it's all a grid with a few crossing streets and a highway that circles the whole thing so you can get from one "quadrant" to another very quickly. I suppose the fact that my travels here are more efficient leads to somewhat better mileage.

As for the stretches of interstate-- the only difference was the hills. There was some construction on 65 in KY that caused me to slow down to 65mph, but that was maybe for a mile or two at best, and on a 100+ mile stretch, that's not a drop in the bucket.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr

I get around 16-17 mpg in my '04 6mt coupe, based on the NAV. It's only 3 weeks old, with about 700 miles on it. I use Chevron 93 octane, and mostly city driving in Dallas. I'm not real easy on it either.

It is weird the descrepency in what people are getting. Still, it doesn't bug me much. The car is a dream to drive.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr

Hahahahaha... no more orange in Indy. Indiana's out of consturction for 65 and has been for quite a while. That portion of 65 just north of Louisville, though? AAAGGGHHH!!! It's under Kentucky's watch, even though it's in the state of IN because Louisville wanted it done.

When I went to visit Vanderbilt while I was in highschool back in 1997, 65 was under construction north of Louisville.
Here I am, a GRADUATE of Vandy, and it's STILL under construction. I just can't fathom the ineptitude that must go into something like that. We used to joke that Kentucky's DOT budget was $2.50 and a stick of chewing gum-- you can tell when you cross over the state line, too. On 65N in Tenn, it's smooth as a baby's bottom... then it says "Welcome to Kentucky! (where education pays)" and all the sudden you hear the non-stop drone of unfinished pavement.

Kentucky, GET YOUR A$$ IN GEAR!

PS. My gas mileage rocks Had to put something related to the title... sorry for the hijack.

Re: Horrible gas mileage! grrrr

I'm on my 4th tank of gas on my 2004 6mt coupe with 900 miles.

I drive in Dallas same as Micas above but drive about 75% highway.

1st tank - didn't want to know
2nd tank - 19.7 mpg (Mobil - 93 Octane)
3rd tank - 21.4 mpg (Race Track - 93 Octane)

I drive the car responsibly fast - usually skip 5th gear and go straight to 6th since 4th brings me to the legal limit.

I wonder if the 350z has the same odd mpg differences among its owners. You would assume so, but it would be interesting to know.
