Infiniti Repainting My Wheels
Infiniti Repainting My Wheels
Hey all!
I have a quick question. When I picked up my car about a year ago I noticed there where many "water spots" on the rims. I figured they just needed a good cleaning. Well try as I could I was never able to remove them. So the dealer ship has agreed to repaint the wheels finally.
I don't have a problem with them repainting the wheels as I think it is common practice, but I assume they will put a new clear coat or some protectant on them? If not should I be insisting that they do? I am half tempted to ask if they will paint them piano black

They should paint a coat of black and then a coat of silver on top. My rim was getting funky and i went to a wheel refinisher and he told me thats what the usual procedure would do.I am not sure about clear coat though
I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't anything I should specifically ask. I assume that once they are repainted they will look brand new, and that they will last as long as if they where from the factory.
The factory gets wheels from the maker sent to them so its no different, a smaller shop if they take their time can make the wheel look better than when you got it new

If the wheels had the marks when you took delivery of the car, the dealer should give you new wheels - not just repaint yours. Infiniti warranty covers this.
I had a slight defect on paint on two of my wheels after I had the car for two years and I got them replaced by the dealer.

If they are gonna replace them you could think of striking up a deal to use that cedit to get some cooler aftermarket ones. That is how I got my AVIC-D2 for free! Best Buy killed my stock unit so I made a deal with them to replace it with a waaaay cooler aftermarket one. Just some food for thought.
I have spots on two of mine.. your telling me Infinity warranties these? I assume if they are going to paint them they will need your car overnight and drop them off locally so you get the car back the next day?

Had I brought up the problem a year ago (like I should have) I would have insisted on brand new RIMS. I was actually shocked they agreed to repaint them without any fighting or dicking around.
My particular dealership is pretty darn good so your milage may vary on getting them to warrenty your RIMS. The plan is to drop off the car next Monday. They said they would keep it for about 2 days while they send the RIMS off site.
I will post some before pictures so people can see the spotting I am talking about. I will also put up some after shots so you can judge the job they did.
