sorry for the dumb question:
after a few months on my aftermarket 19's (from oem 18's) I just realized that my spare 18 in the trunk wont do me much good if i need it.
am i correct?

Outer diameter is all that's really going to matter. Your 19's are sized similar to the 18's so that they'll work. Same applies to the spare. If your 19's work in place of your 18's, the spare intended for the 18" is still going to fit. In fact, I'd hazard a guess and say that the space-saver spare used for the OEM 18's and OEM 19's is the same one.
Either way, one look at your G with that spare is going to have you rushing to get your tire fixed. It serves the purpose and will still do so for you and your aftermarket 19's.

lets just put it this way...your 18 inch or 17 inch spare...has fatter tires hence smaller rim, and your new 19's have thinner tires and bigger rim, they balance each other out and will have same or very close diameter. therefore it will work out and the world is beautiful again

If you get a flat, have car trailered... You can join road side assistance\towing etc. clubs for around $50 a year... One tow would cost more than that and a tire patch & balance is around $20 or so, then you have to put it back on... Hell with that!
You should calculate the overall diameter of whatever tire you put on your 19's, in case you got something other than stock and then check your 17's with whatever tire you put on that. With the tires out there, it's possible you could have different overall diameters, but could probably limp home with one corner all wonky.
