How Do I Handle Winter Salt
How Do I Handle Winter Salt
OK everyone. I picked up my Coupe yesterday and the frist night I have her home it snows. Good timing eh? My concern now is the salt on the roads. My cars always get filthy during the winter. What is the best way to keep the car clean, besides not driving it at all. Also what type of wash and wax do u guys recommend after it gets hit with snow, slush and salt. Thanks for the input.

Almost any wax will help with the paint but the more pressing worry would be the underbody in my opinion. I got underbody and rust protection on the underbody with a 10 year warrenty so i'm not too worried. Other than that just wash it at least once a week and once you noticed the water isn't beading any more wax again.

I bought this little gizmo called the EuroBlaster just for that reason. To clean the undercarriage. I jack the front end up, spray and soap away. Then the back.
Also, search your area for touchless car washes. Some do an undercarriage blast also, but if they operate by a wheel rail, it could scratch your rims if not wide enough.
A lot of people with the 350z just do a slow drive over a lawn sprinkler.

If it's really cold, don't worry about it. The salt only corrodes your car when it starts to warm up above freezing.
As for washing your car, I'd either take it to wash with a spray wand and do it by hand. The "touchless" washes use too harsh of detergents and a lot of "soft" cloth are anything but soft on your car. If you can't find a hi end car wash, I'd stick with the spray want wash to get the salt off of it.
