Anybody running different type tires front vs. back?
I currently have the Pilot Sport's at all four corners, but the rears wear WAY faster than the fronts (almost twice as fast). I was wondering if anyone has put different tires on the front vs. the back until they could swap all four through? In other words, I'd replace my rear PS's with say Potenzas in a few months, and then replace the front PS's with Potenzas later on when they wear out.
Anybody do this? Good idea / bad idea?

The OEM Bridgestone Potenzas were the first to wear out on my G. By 20,000 miles, they were slicks so I switched them out to Toyo TR1's 255/40/19.
Noticed that the front was over compensating. The balancing was off. She didn't handle as well. Regardless, 6 weeks later I still took her to the track - streets of willow - and had my track experience. After that, the front Potenzs has little life leff. I just changed the front to Toyo TR1's 245/40/19. Feels a lot better now. Balancing/handling issue is just a forethought now.

Yeah I've heard bad things about the Potenza's, they just happened to be the first example to come to mind. How long are the Toyo's supposed to last? Anybody have any experience with the Potenza RE050A Pole Position? I don't think that's the OEM tire on the 05+...
Ask that q to a tire guy or mechanic, and he'll flip.
Bad idea- traction differential can be dangerous. Different mfgs use different means to achieve their aim. Tread blocks are shaped differently, compounds can vary from inside to outside of the tire, carcass construction and shoulder design can be completely different. The 050s for example are not unidirectional, but rather have an "inside" and "outside" because of compound design. The PS are unidirectional on the other hand. The shoulders of the 050s are quite square, the PS are more rounded. The tread design differences are apparent.
I spoke to my mechanic when my rear PSs were fried on my first G coupe, and I still had almost half tread life left on the fronts. He recommended just changing the rears, but for a new set of the PSs. I did so, with no negative impact.
