Did anyone here change their oil after the 1200-mile break-in period? I'm just wondering if I should do that or just wait until the first scheduled 3750-mile maintenance. Anyone know what kind of oil the dealers use, btw? Thanks.

I waited until 3750. Modern engines don't require a special after-break-in oil change. In fact, the VQ35 engine breaks in very slowly, and there will be extra wear metals in your oil past 10,000 miles. That being said, there are members here that do change their oil at 1200 miles. It certainly won't hurt the car to change the oil more often. It's really between you, your comfort level, and your wallet.

I let my dealer do the first oil change, because it was a freebie. I don't know what the car comes with from the factory. The dealer put in Pennzoil 5W30. (All Infiniti dealers may not use the same oil.. ask your local service dept., just call them up and ask what oil they use.)

My Belief is Changing Oil is like Sex.. You can never do it much. I Have 5K miles on my "G" and have changed the oil Two times. The first time was at 1K, second at 3K, third will come at 6K, then every 3K after that.

Changed mine at 700 miles, then again at 1900. I plan to do the next one at 5000 miles and switch to synthetic then.
That first change at 700 miles had some tiny metal flakes in it, but it was clean at the 1900 mile one. I'm taking no chances. :-)

What oil did you guys use? I currently have 2850 miles on my car and I plan on changing the oil at 3000.

I changed my oil at around 1500. I guess engines today are pretty sturdy but I felt it wouldn't do any harm my changing it this early anyway.

Youre not suppose to change your factory enginre oil until 3000miles. The oil that comes from the factory has additives that help break in your engine.

 

That's not necessarily true.. many modern engines come with just regular oil for break-in. Of course, I still didn't change mine until 3750 anyway.
