Looks like Gordgee has it pretty much covered and you are figuring it out with his help. Once you get the camera setting to your liking for posting to the net, remember that anything better than 72 pixels per inch is usually a waste on the net.
Try staring with the lowest resolution on the camera then use your Photo Suite to edit for anything you want to post. 3"x4" sounds a little small, but looks pretty big when posted.
As an example, this pic is 172wx107h pixels or 2.4"wx1.5"h at 72 pixels/inch. 54kb size.
