*REAL* ECU reset procedure for 03 ?

What is the proven method to completely reset the ECU in a 2003 automatic coupe? I have searched on this topic and read more threads than I care to count in the past week or so. However I have yet to find a definitive answer, in fact every thread is pretty much the same...50% say do the pedal trick and 50% say unhook the battery for 12 hours. Some people are saying the pedal trick only resets stored codes in the ECU and nothing else. But I know on the Maxima forums (my previous car, same engine)...the consensus was that unhooking the battery no longer worked not matter how long you leave it disconnected.

Any confirmed input is appreciated.

That's one of the threads I'm talking about...towards the end it seems that some people figured out that it only clears stored codes in the ECU and not air/fuel mixtures and such.
