Warranty Questions

Greetings,

I'm interested in buying a used coupe, but have a few questions about warranties:

1. How important is it? Would you drive/buy one without a warranty?
2. If I buy an 03 with less than 60k, I've still got a year and some miles to get any warranty work done, should I be alright for 2-3 years after?
3. Anyone have experience with extended warranties? Are they just scams for money? Is there any way to get one through Infiniti/Nissan?

Thanks in advance!

I would say it (the importance of the original warranty) depends upon what work has already been done under warranty. As Hero said, there are a number of known problems that seem to be inevitable - your CD changer will break, your window motors will fail, etc. But the thing is that they don't fail but every X many thousands of miles. So in other words, if you can find a coupe that's just out of warranty but just had those common problems fixed <5K miles ago, you're probably good. But if you buy a coupe that's about at the end of its warranty without having those things go wrong yet, you're probably in for some expense.

Take a look at the maintenance records for anything you're about to buy. In this case, I think you're better off buying the vehicle that's already had some problems (small stuff only of course).

Its pretty tough question to answer, most likely the extended warranty is just for your pace of mind but it is always good idea to have warranty, especially with G35, cus its long term reliability is not well know at this point.

There are also different type of extended warranties, the powertrain warranty which is basic warranty and only covers, the vehicle’s powertrain. powertrain warranty will cover you for the big ticket items and the really big repair bills. These are the most inexpensive of all the warranties, this would include the engine, transmission, drive axles and drive shaft, water/oil/fuel pumps…ect

Here couple of sites offering extended warranty, I am not telling you to buy from them, but look at whats covered and pricing so you can be better info'ed and decided which type of warranty is for you...

If you're planning on buying an 03', get the extended warranty for like $1k-1500.

Thanks for those links lime, I'll check 'em out.

One other question I thought of: if I choose to extend the warranty through Infiniti, will it be the exact same coverage as a new car, or more limited? (Assuming they only have one leve, ie. have or don't have)

Get a G with some warranty left on it. It's a tossup with a ride you don't know the history of.

Extended warranties, if available, will be very expensive if bought near the end of the manufacturer's warranty.
