I thought about it the other day after seeing a Caribbean Blue Elise on the road. It would be a great car to get in addition to the coupe as a track/weekend/mountain run car. It wouldn't replace the G35C though, they are too different. It's more of a S2000 class car, but more extreme and exotic. For the track I would take an Elise over almost anything else.

While I drive my G daily, to and from work and for a few errands, the fact is that I only drive it locally and usually only during the week. less than 4000 miles since the 4th Qtr. of '05.

The Lotus Elise would still fit the bill... ...but I don't like convertibles so it would have to be the Exige... ...and supercharged. And that's simply too expensive for me.

Here are some criteria you should be able to check off before jumping ship:

1. Do you have an alternate, more "practical" form of transportation?
2. Can you afford the extra maintenence cost that goes along with owning such a work of art? Not to mention insurance...
3. Will you be using this mostly for track/canyon carving/weekend toy?

If the above seems to correspond with your car situation, then sure, the elise would be about the best choice unless you had a lot more money to spend. I don't think some of the fanboyzzz even know what this car is.

congrats if you decide to switch. that is a NICE car.

Just buy a turbo MR2 in good shape, they look better and still have the reliability of a toyota.

my roommate has a 2005 Elise, and yes it has the Celica engine. However, at under 2000 lbs, there is more than enough power. Honestly, the G35 and Lotus are entirely different cars. The lotus is a lot of fun to drive hard, especially around the track, much more so than the G35. However, every day, especially with crappy roads, the Elise can get old fast. His elise doesn't have the optional sport package, but the ride is still as hard as a rock. You will feel every bump and pothole. Ingress/egress is also a pain with the side sills being so tall. Also, while the driver has some space, the passenger seat has even less. I think you're comparing apples to oranges here. As a weekend, go fast, take to the track car, the elise is a much better choice, but as an every day driver, it is pretty horrible. My roommate uses his camry for the most part since you can't fit much of anything in the trunk of the elise. His golf clubs have to ride shotgun if he takes it to the course. I do not reccomend getting the elise as your only car. You'll be suffering for practicality very quickly
