What rpm do you shift at...
Depends on how hard I'm wanting to accelerate or if I want to enjoy the sensational exhaust reverb resonating off of the surroundings.
Optimal fuel economy is attained by keeping your RPM's between 1500 and 2300, but that isn't much fun. I usually shift by 2600 or 2700 in normal driving, but I do skip gears most of the time... usually 1-2-4-6 or 1-2-3-5-6. I seem to consistently get about 23.7 MPG according to my NAV and I reset it every fillup now(Thanks to the Z-Tube and K&N Filter which boosted my economy by about 1.5 to 2 MPG consistently).
A few revs here and there won't make any noticeable difference to your economy or put much wear and tear on your motor either.... unless you consistently shift at high RPM's(4000+).

Our VQ's were MADE to rip up homeboy...
Daily relaxed driving (MPG Save mode) = 2300-2800 RPM
Daily aggressive driving = 3500-5000 RPM
Racing/Fun = Chirp 2nd, Chirp 3rd...basically....REDLINE

You seem to worry too much about MPG. If you wanted great MPG, you should have looked else where than a G35. Have fun with it and rev it high! I bet your stressing your engine more by shifting at 2600 rpm's than 3500-4500 RPM's.
But seriouisly, I never knew a G owner shifted as low as 2600 RPM's!!!
sometimes i shift at 2k. it really depends on what the speed limit is. when the speed limit is 35 or 45 i shift at around 2k to 2.5k, and shifting this low does not hurt your stress your engine because if you read the manual it gives you and ideal speed to shift at and it says to shift into 6th at 33 mph, which i have never done
3,000 RPM in the city...
On the highway, it depends if I have to do a quick merge or not. Usually, I'll open the throttle merging on the freeway if its nice and clear.
I read somewhere on this forum about letting the RPMs drop more going from 1 to 2, than 2-3 and so on. It helped, my shifts are smoother. If only I could do it 20 times out of 20.

Funny I was just wondering the same thing this morning, I drive an 05 6mt. I shift around 2.5k normally. 3.5k when i need to accelerate on city roads. 4k-5k when i'm gettin on the highway. i think it depends on if you have a 03-04 or 05-06. the 05 and up has higher redline and lower torque.
matters how your driving.....
like when i am driving agressivly i will shift around 5.5-6k rpm cause i got a injen cai and i get more top end with that so i tend to hold it alittle longer
but when i driving normal i will shift anywhere between 3.5-5 rpm for a smooth light shift =0)

It's all relative to what the heck you are trying to do at the time.

When ever I redline my G i love it but it also hurts me; I get this awful "Grrrrrr" sound coming from the clutch... you can also feel it. I hope its normal. It almost sounds like a cat purring at me
