Weird rattle/lug noise?

Hey guys and gals, help me out here. My wife and I bought an '06 G35 Coupe 6MT and I love it. Especially the wife! Ever since she learned to drive a stick, she loves the G35. Anyhow, it only has 4500 miles on it and I don't know if it's because we've been driving it a little harder lately or what, but I notice that if I'm on second gear going about 10-15 mph when I step on the gas fairly quickly ( but not that heavily really) I hear a slight rattle or lugging noise. Is it because the RPM's are too low when I attempt to accelerate rapidly? Or can it be something else? Thanks in advance for you replies. This forum here is the best!! Thank again.

Sounds like pinging. My car does that also. Could be bad gas. Seems like my car makes this pinging noise for instance if you are doing 30mph in 3rd gear and then put the pedal to the floor.

I hadn't thought about that. But I've always put gas from the same Gas station, the closest Chevron and I always use the highest level here in CA. 91.

Any other ideas?

You might try running some fuel enjector cleaner through. Be sure to put in the right amount.

I wouldn't imagine having to that this soon giving the car has only 4500 miles driven. You think so?

It is early, that's true, but it's possible the injectors are dirty from bad fuel.
Worth a try.....

If it's more of a clicking sound, it could be a TSB for the axle clicking your hearing.

My 05AT had the problem at about 6000 in the front right wheel, an they repacked the bearings. If it's coming from the rear ofthe car, that is covered under the TSB as well.

I actually get the same thing in my 06MT. It's usually if I'm around 2000RPM in either 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes 4th gear, and I push the gas a little harder than just casual driving (but it's not like slamming it to the floor). I hear a rattling from somewhere underneath the car, but after the RPMs get up around 2.5k, the rattle will go away. I didn't really think 2000RPM was low enough to be lugging the car, especially on flat ground. I planned on getting it checked out at the dealership but haven't had a chance to.

Does this sound similar to your problem? Hope you can figure out what the problem is!

Yeah, this sounds about right. And to answer your question Nismo G, no I don't get that other noise you referred to.

Dkong, you got it about right. It's when I'm in a low gear and my speed is low that I get that. However, if I take it up high in first gear, say like at 3,000 RPM when I shift to second... I don't hear anything. That's why I was leaning towards lugging. What do you think?

I think that being in second gear at 2000rpm and pressing the throttle half way down on a 3.5L engine should not cause pining. Nissan ****ed up with the ecu or whatever and now we're all screwed. Most 6mts I've driven make this noise and indeed I've had independent shops confirm that it is pinging what we're hearing. I have an appointment to force the dealer to inspect it again this wednesday - hopefully it can be resolved. I know so far that colder plugs help but don't resolve the issue totally.. at least on modified engines... if your intake is stock your might be able to eliminate it w/ plugs alone.

I just think the car is tuned to aggressively and is on the borderline of pinging/knocking - it needs an ecu reflash

By the way this is only an issue with rev-up 6mts as far as I know...
