So I get out of work early yesterday and opened my passenger door to toss my briefcase onto the passenger seat, when I noticed that the keyhole cover is missing. I know that it doesn't have a lock cylinder in there, but for lack of a better term...I'm using keyhole cover. I didn't see any scratches around the handle, which may indicate very little force to remove it. Do these things just snap off or do you guys think someone was trying to break in my G. I park in a garage @ work and security guard walks around frequently. Has anyone experience something like this? I called my dealership and they replaced it this morning for free. I feel great that they replaced it @ no cost to me, but makes me wonder why they were so quick to approve something like this. I just wanted to know if this was a common issue with our cars.

i can pop it off of your car in about 10 seconds...i think someone just wanted it for their driver side and was too poor to buy one so they took yours

 

So those things just pop off? I thought that I saw a screw at end closest to the rear of the car that may possibly hold it in. Is this not the case?

 

yes they just pop right off. took me less than 30 seconds to install mine

 

Man thats sad, people can afford to buy a G35 but not the $20 keyhole cover.

 

If it was stolen, then consider yourself lucky that the guy didn't mess up the border around the keyhole cover. A couple weeks ago somebody tried stealing my car by putting a screwdriver or something into the border of my panel and keyhole cover.

When it came to repairs I got quotes around $500 cuz of repainting and taking off the panel to hammer it back into shape. All that for about a centimeter worth of damage.

Take a look on your driver side door handle and notice how there is a keyhole and the passenger side doesn't? Well that cover on the passenger side with no keyhole is the cover that they are all talking about it. People, including myself, have bought an extra passenger side cover to put on our driver side door handle to cover up the keyhole.

 

Its the part of your door handle that doesnt move when you pull on the handle. On the driver's side it has a keyhole in it. They call this piece an escutcheon...

funny thing mine was missing it flew off in the freeway..i got the escutcheon.

Thanks everyone who responded. I guess that I am lucky that there isn't more damage and that my dealership (Infiniti of Annapolis) covered it. Like most of you, I don't understand why someone with a moderately priced luxury car can't afford a $30 part when most of us spend more just puting gas in our cars. Anywayz, I digress.

 

Mine just got stolen yesterday. No sign of any prying with a screwdriver. I'm surprised they didn't take a few seconds longer to take the clear corners, too. Where can I get the driver side escutcheon for $20-$30?
