I think most folks who are on the Bimmer side is missing the point: Most here are saying that the 08 coupe will look better (inside and out, and since we've all see the concept, which is supposedly 90 % close to the 08 coupe) and yes, the performance of that car is really nice but is lacking in all other categories. I was never a fan of the "boxy" look of the bimmer. That was why I chose the G35 Coupe. Now, I'm thinking of the Cayman S OK, I digress...the point is, they are both nice cars. I think if the G35 crowd wanted to go by performance, they would just look at the new GT-R when it will get released. Some say that it will do 0-60 is about 4 secs. I don't think even the M3 can do that.

How do I know? Cuz Infiniti is trying to keep the car in the 35k range and you have to cut corners somehwere and its not going to match the 335i performance. I wasnt commenting on the looks, even the current G looks better than any 3 series, including the M3. I was responding to some of the fanboys going "OMG the 08 coupe is gonna have 330hp and pwn the 300hp 335i"

To readdress the original question of whether or not the 2008 G35 coupe' will be a better performer than the 2007 BMW 335i coupe’. There is not a definitive answer since the 2008 G35 coupe' has not been released and the specifications have not been disclosed. I would however like to contribute two vital pieces of information that may have been overlooked. The Skyline GTR is Nissan's Halo car so there will not be a car produced by Nissan that encroaches on its performance metrics. The BMW 335i uses small MHI symmetrical turbos for quick spool up and therefore quick response. The down side of using small turbos is the reduction in overall maximum bhp and torque. I do not see BMW giving such a large boosting threshold for the engine with stock turbos. The maximum output for the MHI turbos should be in the range of 310 to 320 bhp before thermal and mechanical failure. You can not keep boosting a turbo to no end; once the thermal threshold of a turbo is reached it becomes a performance impediment since it is just producing extra heat. The engine in the 335i coupe' and saloon has an inherent advantage over that of the 2008 G35 coupe' and that is it is designed for forced induction.

These threads are meaningless since the 08 coupe is not even out yet for us to compare. I think everyone is getting so defensive about the 08 coupe is cause the fanboys are afraid that the 335i will actually be better than it. Well, everything aside, the 08 coupe WILL BE better bang for bucks compared to its competitors. Performance wise, 335i SHOULD BE better since it has so much modding potiential, however, in the sexiness department, 08 coupe will win!

sometimes i wouldnt even compare a 3 series with the G, since the price margin is so big between the two. Just me 2 cents

Whether or not the new G is out yet makes little difference to me--the new 335 has taken all of the sport look out of the 3 series. It looks like an old person's luxury coupe, not a sportscar by any means.

Hell, the current G is far better looking than the new 3. I park next to a 328 coupe at work and every day I stare at how much nicer and sportier the G looks.

Not to mention, if I were to get a 335, I would be leasing that sucker! I can only imagine what the repair costs would be for turbo work on that thing!

Looks are in the eyes of the beholders, but I too am in the G35 camp. The 3 series is nice looking IMO, but nothing special. I use to own an '02 M3 which I thought was a decent looking car with super performance, but I was always amazed at those who fawned over its appearance. Again I think the E46 M3 looks solid, but it certainly wasn't a car that I would stare at while it was parked in my garage.

As far as the '08 G is concerned, I'd be surprised if it isn't at least as fast as the 335. Let's face it Infiniti knows the 335 is its direct competition and they aren't about to release a new G which is inferior to an earlier model 335, even if it means that the '08 G will cost a few thousand more than the car it replaces. You aren't going to sell many '08 Gs by admitting that the car isn't up to its competition in the performance department but costs a few $K less.

my 2cents, the 07 G sedan is running very close to the 335. so my feeling are that the 08 G coupe will have the advantage.
Infiniti always gives the coupe more HP than the sedan. dollars, power, looks, and is just as good a performance car as the bimmer. G all the way and yes in my openion the 335 if not all bmw have lost that solid look they used to have. hope they don't screw up the new M3

I have been looking at the 335i and i am really loving it... but after seeing what the 07 G sedan looks like i can only imagine how the Coupe is going to look... plus the G sedan is puting out 306HP... so you know the Coupe is going to come with more... its got to... i am just hoping the Coupe isnt as pricey as the 335 i.... 2008 Infiniti G Coupe all the way!!!!!

Actually yesterday I saw two that were moderately equipped on a BMW lot near me. Both of them had stickers a tad over $46K, and the Dealer near me, Towson BMW, isn't discounting the 335. The overall design of the car is nice, but the interior is ho hum especially for a nearly $50K car. What really was disappointing to me was the wheels. Not only did they look like something I would expect to find on a Hyundai, but they had already collected lots of brake dust. I looked at that car's odometer and it had 26 miles, but the wheels had about ten times the amount of brake dust as my G which had over 300 miles since I cleaned the wheels.

Ok, so

In houston, the BMW dealer is right across the street of the Infiniti dealer.

On my way there I saw a new 335 coupe being test driven. I follow it closely. As we made a U turn under the freeway. I had a feeling he was gonna gun it as he exits the corner.

We gun it around the same time and my G kept up all the way till 90 on the feeder and then I let off.

I would bet that the BMW would whoop us from the line because of the higher torque.

So, in comparison with the 2008 coupe.

The BMW and 2008 will be close. but the 2008 will be a little faster because infiniti knows what the 335 got. So they can make the next move and make it just a little better.

It seems like this is the way the game is played between these automobile maker.

The next car will be better than the previous automobile maker.

Look at the cycle BMW 330 first then Lexus IS300 and then Acura TL and then G35.
The cycle starts over again

IS350, BMW 335, 2007 G35 and then Acura TL

2007 335<2008 coupe

As I posted earlier, it doesn't make sense for Infiniti to release an '08 that's not up to par with one of its primary competitiors, especially when the competitor is one MY older.
