Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

4000 miles, no problems at all.

It's a freaking car, get over yourself. It's a huge assembly of moving parts and some of them are bound to fail simply because it's impossible to engineer perfection. BMW, Acura, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, and Lexus all have failures too.

You seem to imply that you expect no problems whatsoever on every expensive car you have ever purchased. If so, you are setting yourself up for failure, no matter what brand you choose.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

I'm going to have to assume you are not talking to me when you say "It's a freaking car, get over yourself"? That's a very easy statement for somebody with 4000 miles and no problems to get over to make, isn't it.

How about you put yourself into my shoes. You are at week four of your ownership experience w/your coup. You have yet to make the first payment on the coupe and it is your primary mode of transportation. It inexplicably pulls up lame on you at 1500 miles. Your left wondering is this the first of a string of problems? Is this a lemon? Will this dealer be like a majority of other car dealers I've worked with and in fixing one problem create two more?

My main reason for posting this was to share with the community that a phenomenon others have reported experiencing is leading to real problems and repairs on my car. I was not looking to assert that I expected perfection though I do, rightfully I might add, have higher standards than multi-day driveline repairs in the first month of ownership. I also did not come here to assert that this is a common issue. It is what it is and I don't think I've made it out to be anything more or less.

Anyway, on to a follow-up. Dropped the car off at the dealer at lunch today. They were very understanding and accommodating and I was off with a loaner in no time. Arrival time on parts has been tentatively moved up to this week. With luck I'll have the car back end of week. Thanks for the encouragement folks and I guess I'll just cross my fingers and "get over myself".

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

Shader7 - Wait until it happens to you, I don't think you would be talking smack like you are right now. Many members on this forums has had this happen to them so this is definatly a problem with the transmission, not the driver.

LouXer and ReDRoK8 - I totally feel your pain. If a transmission would fail on me this early, I would also be very upset. Imagine if this happens over and over again, I certainly would not have the time nor the energy to take care of this matter. Even worse, imagine what would happen when the warranty wears out. If I was in your shoes, I woul not stand for it, once is too many, but thats just me. We paid a great deal of money for this car so this should not be happening.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

LouXer, I knew it would happen. I guess Shader7 thinks a post reporting problems is a strike at his mortal being. Shader calm thyself and how bout' maybe some constructive ideas or opinions, huh?

I am well aware of what engineers do and I think everyone else here is as well. That's the reason we bought this car. But as Lou mentioned maybe you should put yourself in someone else's shoes. I, like him use this as my primary mode of transport and I picked an infiniti because in my experience usually, "imports = more" reliability.

Maybe your situation and standards are differant, maybe not. But Lou definately got off worse than me as I got at least 15,000 out of my tranny before the problems started. Again I'm sure your values are differant than mine but plain and simple I do expect better reliability out of a $36,000 vehicle that is my only mode of transportation.

I am realistic though and my dissatisfaction does not simply come from a component failure but from the over all experience with the car and the company. I love my car and love to drive it. I am also sure that everyone's experience is a little differant from mine which has has ranged from mild annoyance to outright displeasure at the way my over all experience with several differant dealers and Infiniti itself.

Everyone has their priorities and Infiniti has failed to fulfill mine. I was just looking for my happiness in my car to continue when dealing with the people that support it. So as of now the incredible value I originally found in the car is slipping, we'll see if Infiniti restores my confidence. Good luck with your G.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

Heh heh, I didn't mean to ruffle so many feathers . . .

I'm simply saying that a certain percentage of mechanical things, no matter how well designed, will fail prematurely. That is just how things are. The people that are the victims of these failures are often the most vociferious (with good cause), making it appear that there is a chronic problem with respect to that type of failure when in fact is is just the nature of mechanics, regardless of the true quality of the product. If you doubt this, go check the AMG, M3, 745, Z06, or other far more expensive car affecionado forums. They are littered with similar posts (and similar threats to never buy car brand X again).

Statements such as . . . "I hope they keep up the good work because they are (on) the thin line between my coming out of this willing to purchase another Infiniti and crossing Infiniti off my list for good." . . . are certainly emotionally justified, but are not so easy to justify objectively without an accurate measurement of the incidence of the problem. Never buying another car from any particular manufacturer because you got one bum clutch doesn't sound reasonable to me. That said, the Catch-22 is that people don't (normally) buy 10 or 20 of the same car, so it makes it difficult to get an accurate, personal experience of the reliability of the automobile, providing relatively little objective data upon which to make future decisions regarding that brand. This forces our emotional attachment to play a significant role in that decision.

The bottom line is that it stinks that you got a bad clutch, and I feel for you, and I'm glad the dealer is doing the right thing. So far the data I've seen does not indicate a systematic failure mode for the 6MT clutch/tranny; it appears that you were just among unlucky (of which there are many for every car manufacturer). If time shows that there is indeed an overrerpresented clutch/tranny problem, then I'll be here eating crow as with both hands.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

Well, Infiniti is now bordering on strike two If I am to believe my local dealer's service department, which I am inclined to do as they have done a good job handling this situation so far, Infiniti has NO G35 CLUTCHES STOCKED IN NORTH AMERICA?! Either there has been a run on them, hummmm, or they simply have done a poor job with inventory and overhead. Either way that means my new clutch is now making a trans continental trip to my dealership with an ETA of next week. So at a minimum I will be G less for 2 + weeks due to this clutch issue. And I hope and pray that the clutch is the only issue. I can only imagine what it will be like if they do the clutch and determine more driveline parts need replacing.

On a positive note, my dealership has been good about proactively keeping me up to date on my cars status and taking care of my car while it is in their care.

Ugh, I just want my G back

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

Did they give you a decent loaner?

I know how you feel about not having your car. Mine was in the shop for a small dent repair for a few days. I drove my van twice (ugh) and got a ride to work with a friend a couple days and it was horrible being G-less but far worse being car-less.

On the positive side, I was able to reset my internal SOP thrill meter by driving the van, reaffirming my faith in the G once I got it back. These cars are truely amazing.

Good luck on the repair.

yes...what sort of loaner are they giving you? I'm taking mine in tomorrow for some minor things...temp.gauge, window rollers streaking, and the infamous AT shock when going from R to D. They're giving me a loaner, so I don't really mind. Save some miles on my car. I've already put on approx. 3K since I got it used at the end of Sept.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

That's weird man cuz' it only took less than a week for my dealer to get my full tranny including clutch. I dropped my baby off this weekend and they said it should be done by tomorrow.

Also on a good note I made them feel SOO bad about my tranny replacement they let me take a FX35 as a loaner instead of the regular G35 Sedan AT, Tee-Hee. The FX is really nice, I actually like it. If you can get past the "Fugly" part it's really a neat little 40K car/cross-over/mutant. It has alot of the features I wish they had put in our cars. NAV style radio/climate/dash controls, Projection style HID's with manual level adjustment, Actual Fogs lights in the lower bumper, Full Power seats with multi driver memory, Silver Interior Accents that are actually brushed Aluminum, Actual trunk space (ha ha), and some other nic-nacs. It's real nice, I kinda feel spoiled driving it. Only weird thing is now instead of other dudes and hot young ladies checkin my ride out. I seem to be attracting the 30 something mommy-yuppies. Is there a term for that. "Muppies"? LoL. Peace.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

You should drive a loaded one around. THEN you'll be talking about spoiled... I love our FX, but I love my G more. The FX is just simply amazing with the sport suspension, etc. as it handles better than anything I've ever driven in that class.

btw, open up the floor of the trunk and look in the spare tire-- that's the sub. Kind of a nice sound system in that baby.

Re: Strike one Infiniti, so disappointed.

For those asking I'm in a base model AT G35 sedan. Nice car, boring by two compared to the 6MT sedan, but a nice car. I'm not exactly sure why getting a replacement for a *wear item* would be such a multi-national undertaking either? But what can I do... Getting pissy w/the dealership would be counter productive on many levels (they are probably getting jerked around by their regional parts distribution people more than anything). Oh well all I can do is suck it up and tool around in my other, less exciting G.
