I woulda called the cops either way, people driving with out DL's and insurance is BS. Too many people out there doing it and they keep getting away.

the first moment they gave me crap for doing them a favor by not calling the police RIGHT AWAY, i would have called the police.

But congratulations on having patience with old school cultural BS.

So anyhow, finally after about two hours, he coughed up the $413.20, but still wasn't content and kept insisting that all I wanted was to take advantage of one of my own that hasn't made it like I have. He said, "I can't afford nice clothes and a nice car... and if you can live taking advantage of your own people... so be it!"

I couldn't believe this... I'm trying everything in my power to make it as easy and affordable for this guy... sparing him the problems of having the Police come over or have my own insurance take care of it... I'm also gonna be out on money from my own pocket

The owner of the car is responsible for the damage regardless of who is driving it. I congratulate you for being so sympathetic, but it's not the way I would have handled it. You went through a huge hassle for $400, and when the car gets repaired you'll have another hassle. Rather than having a rental car waiting for you after you drop off your car for repair, you have to make other arrangements. Moreover, if they should discover other damage when they do the repair, it will come out of your pocket.

You're absolutely right. People driving when they shouldn't be is a liability and posses a risk to others.

Yeah, hopefully though nothing else comes up as far as damages go.

if you called the cops and they reported it, it may have been worse for you as it would end up showing up on carfax and you would thus take a hit on your resale

plus one.

I called the cops on an uninsured motorist when he rear-ended me. I didn't even think twice about doing it either. An honest mistake I understand. NO insurance and in your case, NO drivers license. You are a hell of a guy. I would have called the cops.

not really, you can get it claimed but not fixed by insurance. I think in that case it wouldn't go on your carfax.

You are a better person than I...................!

At the first notice of playing the race game I would
have been on the phone. The person that owns the
car that hit you is the one responsible for the damage! He's also responsible for his daughter driving his car without a DL and insurance. That
wasn't that long a posting and besides I enjoyed it.
