Coupe Rattle

I have a rattle in the dash behind the steering wheel, sounds like plastic hitting metal. I used a mirror and flashlight to see if there is anything loose and it looks like Infiniti went to great lengths to properly secure everything up there. Anyone else have this noise and if so, do you know what caused it.

Re: Coupe Rattle

Do we have the same problem -- my rattle is only intermittent, when the suspension hits a bump, and seems to be somewhere about where the windshield glass and dash join, perhaps in the center?

Re: Coupe Rattle

Same thing when I go over bumps...but sounds more like from the passenger side...it's getting pretty annoying...and I can't figure out where exactly it's coming from on the passenger side cause I'm always driving the car...my friends who sit in the passenger seat think I'm crazy when I ask them if they hear it...took it to Infiniti and they said it was something I put in my glove box...hhhhhmmm....didn't have anything in my glovebox and the noise started again when I was 20 yards off the dealership lot...ANYONE have a clue what this is...?

Re: Coupe Rattle

if the noise only occurs when the passenger seat is empty it's the seat belt insert hitting the door where you can't see it.
i have a coupe and it drove me crazy, the metal end of the belt bangs against the door when you hit a bump in the road.

That's what I found too. At first I thought it might be something else, but then I found the buckle hitting the plastic of the door frame. It wasn't the actual door itself.

Re: Coupe Rattle

I have the noise as well. It comes from the upper side of the passenger side dash near the windshield. Its most noticeable on high accelerartion and stopping, a "click and clunk sound" like plastic on metal, something is definitely very loose or broken in there, (maybe the air bag or ventilation components) !!!. I took it in today for my 3 month servicing and we did a test run (with nothing in the glove boxes or center console), with the technician in the passenger seat, he heard it too !!! I will bring the car back for servicing it on Tuesday January 28th. I will let you know what it was. I get a loaner service car for that day too !!!
The passenger door rattles a bit too over tiny bumps I'll see if its the seat belt, if not I hope thay can fix that too.
P.S. : They washed my car after the servicing, that was nice......

Re: Coupe Rattle

Please keep us posted as this stupid noise is driving me more psychotic every day...

And I'd like to know what the dealer specifically says so I can tell them the same thing and they don't think I'm so tard who is imagining things.

Thanks...

Re: Coupe Rattle

hmm. I dont know if it was discuss here before but I read on some forum that the rattle comes from your keys hitting the dash...anyone think of this like removing all extra keys and drive it to see if rattling stops..

Re: Coupe Rattle

In my case its not my keys, when I went for the test ride with the technician we used the Valet key with no other keys on the ring, and emptied the glove boxes and center consoles. As far as the door I suspect it may be the safety belt buckle...I will test it on my way home from work.

Re: Coupe Rattle

My rattle is also not keys, not the seatbelt, not the doors. It is coming from almost directly behind the speedometer cluster. I tried adjusting the steering wheel up and down to see if that made a difference but it did not. It is intermittent though and may have something to do with the ventilation. I had not noticed it before it turned cold so it could also be water frozen and trapped somewhere. I had a similar noise in my Lexus and it ended up being the turn signal flasher was loose and banging about behind the dash. The rattle is not really bad but I would notice a cricket fart so any little rattle irritates me.

I am a realist though and understand that such a stiff riding tight car is likely to develope some rattles. This is not a Lexus, it's a sports car. I have many times actively searched out such noises and installed mutes, padding etc. to cure the problems myself, time permitting. If I do find out what the cause is I will post it.

Re: Coupe Rattle

Mine does it too. Although it sounds kinda like a buzzing sound to me. It sounds like it is coming from the dash as well and seems to only happen at high speed. I complained about it to the dealer and they said they would have to have a tech ride with me to check it out. The funny thing was that there was a G35 sedan owner there that day complaining about the same thing.
