Vortech system on 2006 Coupe software
Hi all,
Has anyone installed a Vortech supercharger on a 2006 Coupe? I want to get one installed through my dealer (want to keep the warranty) and they are telling me that there is no computer setup or chip mode or something like that for this particular year yet? Something computer related is not ready yet, I think it had to do with fuel management. Is there one coming out soon? Please let me know.
They also told me that the one available for the 2005 coupe is a direct bolt-on on the 2006 but the software configuration is different. Anyone cares to shed some light?

Well, soon after I purchased my car I came back for something, I think it was to pick up my new registration and I saw a Coupe with a bulgy hood. I got closer to take a look at it (btw, it is still at Coconut Creek Infiniti, but it is automatic), and next to the sticker was another sticker with the addons, and indeed, it had a Stillen supercharger. I took it for a test drive and it was ok, but the whine was a passion killer for me, like big underwear on the ladies.
I spoke to one of the service guys there and they told me they can do it and they will honor the Infiniti warranty with the FI installed. As far as I know they do stillen, vortech and even some turbo kits. I am interested in the Vortech though.
When I was shopping around before I bought my car I asked around a few dealers about FI but they all said they did not do it, or that they had no idea of what I was talking about, even at Coconut Creek Infiniti. The only one that confirmed that they did it was South Motors Infiniti of Miami, they even had a "South Beach" version of the Coupe with FI and a whole bunch of other crap installed by the dealer.
I honestly think there is a disconnect between the Service departments and the Showrooms.
I hope this helps.

^your going to pay out the a$$ for installation from the dealer. If that is the route you want to take to keep your warranty then go ahead. I don't think dealers know much about S/C just because they say so. Stillen is an easy install cause there is no tuning involved. Its preset from the manufacturer. Vortech however is different. Hopefully you picked a good dealer that knows what they are doing. From what ppl say on the boards they cant even do a courtsey car wash right with out scraching someones paint job.

/\ +1 If money is no object and you want peace of mind, I don't have a problem with the Dealer installing a Stillen SC. That is all I would trust them to do because Stillen is a true Plug-n-Play system (not Tunning required). I would not let a Dealer install any other system unless they have a Load Base Dyno in their shop and know and have experience how to tune an EMS (SS, Utec etc...). Also make sure have the warranty in paper because Nissan/Infiniti Engine warranty goes to corporate and are questioned before the warranty is approved.
Hey -
3 things:
1 - Vortech's are not out for 2006 yet...the only 2006 kit available is the MT Z.
2 - ALL FULL KIT VORTECH's come with an ECU - that is fully tuned and pre-programmed as well. It is a very conservative tune, and you don't NEED to tune the car afterwords - but if you want the most HP from the kit and your dollar - you should have it tuned.
3 - You should look for a shop that will do an SS tune. The SS piggy back ECU is VERY good, in the hands of a qualified tuner, and without MAJOR mods being done to your car other than the Vortech, you would need nothing else to get the car tuned properly.
Other suggestions:
Get an oil pan spacer so you can add 1 more quart of oil to the car. Get an oil cooler as well. Get a boost and fuel pressure gauge at the minimum.
Also, when seeking tuner, which I advise prior to buying the kit, make sure they know and actually will do FMU calibration as part of the tune.

Thanks ISMSOLUTIONS, your response has been the most useful so far. I will wait to get the Vortech.

Yeh I have it on my 06 5AT coupe.
I do have the JWT oil pan spacer and new spark plugs.
Dealer is going to totally @$$ rape you if you install it with them.
The Vortech comes with a piggy back system that just needs to be properly tuned...but does come with a system for the ECU.
I really don't know how the dealership is planning on keeping your warranty with a supercharger...

I was looking at the same car at Coconut Creek last week in the showroom. I think they wanted $21k over sticker for all the mods. A young salesperson came over to me and I asked him some simple questions that he couldn't answer. I've seem some crazy cars at this stealership, and they must have some stupid people come in there and buy these creations. They also had an SUV for $85k with video monitors for the third row seats. WTF????

j/k
anyway thats how most dealerships are. They overcharge for the most basic things KNOWING that some baller/rich guy with no common sense about cars/dealerships will walk in and spend the money on the car. Sad but True.
While I don't disagree that dealers charge too much for 'packaged' cars like this, I think your being too harsh.
Lets say the car and mods would cost you $55,000 - but the dealer charges you $62,000.
1 - you don't have to spend the weeks of time without a car and having it done at a shop.
2 - You don't need a rental car for that time either.
3 - You don't have to worry if it's being done with the right parts, etc.
4 - The car is very likely covered under warranty, as opposed to if you did it on your own, it wouldn't be.
A little extra on top for the lack of issue, waiting, and time expenditure, isn't all that bad...sure it's higher than you'd spend, but if you account for all the things above - it's not THAT bad of a deal.
Now - a $65,000 SUV costing $85,000 for bubble gum mods - hey, quality stereo work and components do cost money. If they are overcharging for righteous work, they are entitled to their profit as well...if you don't think so, refer to items 1-4.
Now - I don't' work for a dealer, or ever have, etc. I'm not trying to stick up for them, BUT somethings do make sense for those who do not have the time or essence to manage the work on their own, but still want it done.
Think of the dealer as a contractor - add 20%.
Just my thoughts...
