Honestly, I can't tell you; I've never taken a non-revup 6mt down the 1/4. I would have to assume that taking it to redline is your best bet.

Let's go find a lonesome curvy road or track and compete for times and track position.

You want to drag race? Buy an old Nova, gut it and drop a huge, blown V8 in it with matching running gear and have at it.
I go drag racing maybe once a year and there is nothing odd about it. But i go hit the curvy roads and drive all out maybe once a month. The fun part about drag racing is finding out how can u improve ur launch and shifting technics and not to get into in 11s. In the curvy roads its all about heal and toe downshifting.

For a car like ours I really only pay attention to the HP/TQ numbers, roll-on numbers if they give them and track times if the mag is doing a comparison. I'd like to see mags give 60 to 100 roll-on times and more track comparisons with stock cars and the same driver for each test.

If I want to see how fast I can go in a straight line for a 1/4 mile, I have a 1700cc drag bike or a moderately built 440 Road Runner for that. Of course, neither handles worth damn. That's what the G is for.

I'm sure dragging the G or any sports car is fun for those who do it. I just don't think the car is purpose built for that. The tranny and rear end, including the CV joints at the axle pivots are not (IMO) built for the stresses caused by the sudden release of a clutch at high RPM. Specifically, a viscous LSD is not a drag racing staple but works well under sport track conditions. And CV joints are another story altogether. Early, high horsepower Vettes used stronger U-joints for their independent rear axles. Even those were subject to failure.

It's just my opinion. Certainly it won't change the world nor do I care if does. But it will preserve my G for those days at the track and in the canyon behind my house. To each, his own.

Anyone notice the guy is running on 20's? That has to slow you down quite a bit. I know when I went from 17's to 19's I noticed a huge difference in quickness.

Try to put your stock rims back on and see if your times improve.

Our cars are more towards European racing style.
My last car was an STI. They are much faster than a G35. 4.6 for 0-60 vs about 5.6-7, and quarter 13.3 vs at least another full second. We may have many advantages over an STI, but speed is definitely not one of them.

i was just about to say that lol. The fact that hes running on 20's isnt exactly helping as far as weight is concerned

Yup, good eye there figgaz!!! I noticed the 20'z, too. Yeah, the size of your rims has a big difference. Was your 20'z on? Change them to stock and see how you run!!! You should have a better time. Oh, how was your tire pressure? You should try letting some air out. Give it a shot!!!!

0-60 times are useless, and I've never seen an STi driven well at a track. AWD launches aren't nearly as easy as most people make them out to be.

Just curious, but do you have a 13.3 second timeslip of your STi? Was that stock?

Look at the trap speeds for the STi. They aren't that different from the g35.

A little over a year ago I ran a guy in an 06 STi at a local 1/8th mile. Guy was a novice, and had never taken it down the track. I beat the guy by 5 tenths and 4mph, in the 1/8th.

Of course that guy's not representative of STi owners, but neither is a 13.3 1/4 ET.

'05 G35 Coupe 6MT - 3,512 lbs
'03 Auto 350Z - 3,210 lbs (Touring 3,239 lbs)

So we're talking about ~300 lbs differential.

Have you gotten your car tuned??

I have a bone stock 06 5AT with only the pop charger and a sick K&N oil filter and I ran 9.5's in the 1/8 all day.
