Take car to dealer?
Take car to dealer?
I just passed the 1K mile mark in my 6MT, but a few things are bugging me. First of all, when I turn on the A/C, over half the time I'm greeted with a nasty smell (smells like really bad body odor). I thought it might be a dirty a/c filter, but when I briefly stopped by the dealer's shop, one their guys told me that's not the case, but there's nothing that can be done about it and it's common on ***. cars (should I believe him)? I'm also disappointed with the cheap plastic on the doors that gets dinged up just from grabbing/releasing the seat belt.
In addition sometimes the shifter sounds and feels clunky when shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear (I know I should hear a little something, but not this loud, I would think). And, of course, there's the ever-common bad [hopefully just break-in] gas mileage; I still haven't hit anything above 15 mpg, so far, and I'm not driving it that hard.
My question is, should I bother taking it in to get looked at or are these all trivial/normal things? Also, do you think they will charge me just to look at it? That's what I'm most concerned about; I don't want to shell out $90 or whatever it may be just for them to tell me nothing's wrong. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: Take car to dealer?
well, i've owned several new japanese cars and don't recall the A/C smelling so.... and certainly not on the G!
as for the others, MPG does get better, but i am less than impressed w/my G's gas guzzling (maybe i should be impressed?). at 9K mi, still hoovering at 18mpg.
but the thing that matters is, its a new car, and for the first 48months/60000 mi, you should'nt pay the dealer a dime to look at anything, except for routing maintanence. so if its bothering you, i would suggest you tell your dealer and have it looked at! i've had mine in 5 times in 5 months for rattles/creaks etc and have been given a loaner car each time and have yet to pay a dime for service.

Re: Take car to dealer?
My doors don't get dinged up from seatbelts. Bad gas mileage will get better....I am now up to 20-21mpg at like 2,500 or 2,600 miles on the car. And I don't hear any clunk or anything that would bother me when I drive around with the windows open...all I hear is that wonderful exhaust note when I punch it. =)
Re: Take car to dealer?
I definitely hear the beautiful exhaust note.
Sometimes it muffles the sound of the clunky shifter, so I wonder if I'm oblivious to that other sound sometimes (probably happens more often than I realize, but hearing the exhaust note distracts me from it and I get back to that warm/fuzzy feeling, knowing that I'm driving a G; heh heh).

Err .. Im sure I've asked this before a few times, but I lost track of the posts... Can I take my G to any dealer, or does it have to be the one I purchased it at?

Re: Take car to dealer?
you can take it to any infiniti dealership.
The musty smell from the AC is a known thing. You need to alternate between the recirculate and fresh air (outside air) modes... not just recirculate all the time..... and it will go away.
As for those other things you mentioned, except for the noise, the dealership can't and won't do anything about them, but i guess you could take it in if you like.

Re: Take car to dealer?
I HAVE been switching between outside air and recirculate, but it still isn't helping. I did see the other thread, so I've been trying all those things, but so far, they haven't helped much.

Well, I took her in yesterday. The shop manager told me they sprayed some scent-less deodorizer into the AC to kill the bacteria/mildew (whatever is causing it) smell, but today the smell was back already!? AGHHH! This is driving me crazy. They insist the AC filter has nothing to do with it; I hear that filter is hard to get to also . I don't know what to do now. I've never had this problem with any other car before, so it really p*sses me off...
They also checked the fuel mixture and found nothing wrong with that, so no explanation for the poor gas mileage; they also found nothing wrong with the shifter. Somehow, I knew this trip to the dealer was going to be a waste of time!

Re: Take car to dealer?
I'm also getting the dings in the plastic door molding where the seat belt hits. I wish I knew how I was doing it. I know it isn't happening while driving because I always wear my belt and the passenger side which is usually vacant hasn't gotten these marks. Am I doing it when I put the seat belt on, when I take the seat belt off, or when I get out and close the door? My guess is that it is when I close the door and the seat belt gets squished between the side of the seat and the molding of the door. All those dings really bother me. Fortunate for me, it doesn't show very much with graphite interior. I would think it would get really ugly looking with the willow interior.
As for the smell, maybe a mouse crawled in there and died.

LOL! That kinda lightens the mood a little. :P Maybe it was a lizard or two (?); we have quite a few of those around here, but I'm sure a mouse would smell worse; heh heh... I think you might be right about the door shutting against the seat belt buckle, causing the chips. However, I have also noticed how easily it strikes the plastic just from grabbing it or releasing it. And yes, it is horribly obvious from the driver's seat; every time I go to grab the seat belt, I can see the little dings and I get p*ssed just looking at that.
