Running it hard is the way to go IMHO . But then again, you don't have a rev-up engine like the 05, 06 models, so it's hard to say.

Join the club bro. I just hit the 1000 mile mark for my oil consumption test and I will be going to the dealer on Saturday. My oil is a little bit under the L on the dipstick which means it is a little bit over a quart low. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that means a new engine for me.

It is not all motors. It is kinda random actually. I had a 2005 LR 6MT coupe with the Rev Up motor and had no oil consumption issues. My 06 on the other hand is burning oil like a ****. There is no rhyme or reason as to why some engines are perfectly fine and others aren't. Just make sure to check your oil on a regular basis and do it when your car has been sitting for a while.

only 6mt coupes burn oil.... NOT AN ENGINE PROBLEM

all 2005 and 2006 6mt coupes burn oil, no automatics do just manuals, this does not mean you need a new motor for all you dumbass people who say you do... why would a manual burn oil and not an automatic with the same motor.... It all has to do with when you down shift to engine brake and the rpms go up fast and come down slow, or when you slow down from high rpms in one gear... the piston rings float causing oil to go by and out the exhaust, WHY THE RINGS FLOAT??? There is too much engine vaccum, the throttle blade is closed causing engine vaccum to be really high and the rings float... There is gonna be a fix soon for this problem.... they are gonna change the LOGIC in the ecm causing the throttle blade to fully open when down shifting.... DEPENDING ON HOW YOU DRIVE, YOUR GONNA BURN OIL NO MATTER WHAT.... ITS NORMAL TO BURN 1/2 TO 1 QUART BETWEEN OIL CHANGES....

^^^
I think people having this issue are burning more like 3-4 quarts between changes (1 quart per 1000 miles).

^^^Exactly. I burned and had to replace 4 quarts of oil before my first oil change.

Are the motors identical internally? Are both motors having the same issue, or just the higher rev motor?
I thought one of the maybe 10 or so changes was related to the way oil reaches various parts of the engine.
Either way, I'm going to keep an eye on the oil level.

So how should we be driving our 6mt's? It would appear as though any revving or even downshifting will cause oil burning. My car is burning about 1 qt every 1k miles. That seems pretty high but I'd rather not have some tech tear apart my motor causing other problems in between. That's probably what I'm more afraid of. jspeckg35, I'm sure there is no way around burning oil. But your reasoning behind excessive oil consumption seems valid. Perhaps you can suggest how to minimize the vacuum effect so that we're not burning so much. If I were to follow Infiniti's 3750 mile oil change rule, I'd have gone through almost 4 qts between oil changes. At the same time though, I've seen posts where users were told by Infiniti officials that 1 qt every 1100 miles was normal. What's up with that?

Blow by would cause you to burn maybe half a quart total over the 3750 miles in between oil changes NOT 1 quart every 1000 miles. It seems like you are having a common problem that a lot of G's are having. You may need a new engine. Go to your dealer and request an oil consumption test. I just recently completed my oil consumption test and my VQ is burning 1.5 quarts every thousand miles so the dealer is calling Infiniti to get approval to give me a new engine. Several people on this forum have gotten new engines due to this oil consumption problem.

the problem is not just 6mts, and if this were the case this problem would have reared its head in 03-04s 6mt as well. these people are losing way more than a qt between changes, its like more than a qt every100mi! these people aren't dumbasses...

I think jspeckg35 just isn't informed about the problems that the rev up VQ is having. And it's definitely not only happening to 6MT's but 6MT's seem to be the ones having the problem more than 5AT's.

I've having the same issue with my revup sedan, 05. I'm about 300 miles into my oil consumption test right now. It's so bad that the passenger compartment smells like oil if I ever rev it above 4k rpms. And the blue smoke is obnoxious.

guess not. So are you getting a new engine and which dealer are you using Hexx?

I'm going through Infiniti of Glendale Nightops. I'm assuming that I am getting a new engine. I am still waiting to here back from the dealer. I did leave them a message though.
