oil consumption test.!! WTF.!!!

I bought my coupe 6mt in may...I went to the dealer for this harsh ticking noise that came from the driver side of the car.As i bend down to hear it the noice was comming from the right side of the engine(with the hood open to the right of the motor).So..i took it in and they told me that the fuel dampener had to be replaced.I said ok fair enough. Then i get my oil changed at the local goodyear at around 1075 miles.Everything was great.I watched the guy put in 5qts of mobil-1 5w-30 that i carried with me for the guy to put in.Plus a k&n oil filter. Now,about a week ago i hear the same harsh noise i heard before. So yesterday i brought the car back to the dealer to see what was up.The guy calls me back 3 hours later and tells me that my car didnt have the same problem.!! I said ok well then tell me..He said that my car only had two qrts of oil when he looked at it.!! I told him that i dont really drive that much and the car had an oil change not even 3000 miles ago.(Going on 7 months i have 3900 miles on my car) Long story short...They told me to run the car another 1000 miles with the new oil that they put in and to come back because they are doing a oil consumption test on my car.!!! He told me that if the oil burns again like it did than i will get a new motor.!! I need some input on to whats going on with the car.!! Any advise would be very helpfull.!!! Thanks in advance.!!!

This seems to be a problem with many of the newer VQ35 engines.

Is this a year specific thing, or does the problem exist across all years?

My new engine ships out on Monday the 13. My car had less than 5K miles when this problem started. I finally took it in at 10,150 miles to have the oil consumption test done. At 11,600 miles, Infiniti is replacing the engine. Best of luck.

This doesn't look good.................!!

Ever since I started reading posts about oil
consumption I check my oil once a week.
From what I can tell the problem exists with
the newer '05/'06 engines. Oil must be slipping
past the rings but that should be noticeable. WFK

Is it just me or does it seem that the 05 and 06 seem to have more oil consumption issues. I've got 60k+ (03.5 6mt) and have no issues whatsoever. I run it hard too. It really disappoints me that a recall hasn't been done yet for all 05 and up motors.

My theory is that the piston rings weren't set correctly when you drive the car like a grandma. Read this: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I'm not a mechanic so this is just a theory based on what I've been reading about oil consumption issues on this forum and how their drivers drive. I'm still monitoring my car (520 miles) and crossing my fingers that it doesn't have the same problem.
