MAF cleaning major success story
I've had either a K&N panel filter or JWT on my car for about 35,000 miles.
About 7 months ago, I noticed what appeared to be a "miss" at idle where the engine would shudder for a moment and then recover. At the time I noticed this, I had my Stillen dual catback on, Motordyne spacer and K&N panel filter.
This drove me crazy for awhile and I was getting ready to start systematically eliminating possibilities starting with new gaskets for the spacer, then resetting the throttle body and air sensors, then new plugs and finally back to stock if I had to.
So, today I got up and went to two Pepboys before I found a can of CRC MAF cleaner. I spent the 5 mintues it takes to remove the MAF sensor and clean it and then I took the car for a drive.
Long story short, the car idles better now than when it was new! The shudder is gone and the car revs so much smoother now words cannot do it justice! I've actually taken a couple of drives today just to feel how smooth and responsive and quiet the car has become. It's like night and day!
I cannot stress enough that everyone should spend the 6 bucks to clean their MAF, expecially those with intakes that can get oil on the MAF. I guarantee it will be money well spent!
CRC also has lots of other cleaners, throttle body etc. that probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Hey JZ39, can I trouble you to do a write-up on this? I thought I read in other threads not to take out the sensor to clean it as opposed to what you did.

The procedure is very simple.
With the car off (no need to disconnect battery), pull the plug off of the MAF sensor that is just behind the stock aribox. You have to press down on the tab on the top of the plug and then it pulls right off.
Unscrew the MAF sensor by undoing two screws holding it in. On my Z these were phillips screws; on my G they were Torx 20 safety screws.
Pull the sensor out and then spray 10-15 times on the exposed elements and then let it dry for a few minutes. Put it back in, put the screws back in, re-plug the harness and you are done.
Don't touch or otherwise molest the elements!
