I use to own an '02 M3 coupe and presently own a G35. The G isn't in the same performance class with the M3. I must have had at least six timed quarters in my M3 and none was slower than 13.4 and I had a couple of runs in the 13.2s. A stock G will probably run mid 14s. Also, from what I've read the G runs around 5.9 secs in the 0-60, whereas the M3 turns around 4.8 secs in the 0-60. A sec is a big deal, and it means that the M3 will blow away a stock G35 even on the street.
AS far as the 335 is concerned, I'd carefully check out its interior before you get too excited about the car. I was at my local BMW dealer last Saturday and checked out the 335. It looked fine from the outside but the interior has cheap plastics and it looks a lot like the interior of a Hyundai. I expected a lot more from a car that stickers in the mid $40s.

diff people define FAST differently. i dont think it's fair to compare a G35 to a M3. we all know M3 (E46) is much faster and all.. but then i also dont think for the money, M3 is all that fast. again, u can get a Vett for cheaper and be much faster on a performance stand point compare to a M3.
obviously, M3s arent just a one trick pony.. its got good performance with luxury and overall refinement. thats what makes it so desirable.
i do agree tho, M3 is actually a bargain compare to a Porche C2. it's faster, more lux, and cheaper..haha. i never would have thought of an M3 as a bargain but i guess it is.
G35 is a great overall packaged GT. not very fast, but decent performance overall. decent lux..altho could be better, but for the money, u cant buy a car as sexy as the G..i think thats def. one of the main reason why many of us own it.
to me the 335 interior is pretty much .. BMW. my friend has a E46 M3 and i really dont think it's all that much better. they are pretty similar in feel and quality (meaning the E46s and the new E90s).
im pretty impressed with the new 335i for what it is tho. obviously, it's got newer technologies compare to the E46s.. it performs on par with the E46 M3, and u can get one for around mid $40k.. thats not bad at all.

Haha, I never meant for this to be a "G35 vs. M3" discussion. Like many of you said, that would be ridiculous!
I'm just trying to share my experience being a new G35 6MT coupe owner. I use to drive a '91 Celica (0-60 in somewhere between 15-20 seconds), so the G35 is a very fast car to me. And like I said before, I knew what I was getting into when I tried to race the M3. I'm hoping I can pull a David vs. Goliath, but more than anything, I just want the M3 to live up to its reputation. I have seen too many people with nice cars driving 10 miles below the speed limit. I believe the M3 owner and I were on the same page, which is why we waved at each other at the end. I liked that, just a way of letting each other know that their car ain't bad either
