dent in bumper and broken taillight help

some f*&*ing idiot ran into my car last night while i was at the gym. have no idea who did it. i come out and there is a dent in the bumper about 6in.across and a crack in the right tail light. the dent shop says they can't pull it b/c the plastic is stretched and infiniti says the light assembly is $278. now i have to go to a body shop and let them rape me for either reforming the area or new bumper and paint. i'm pissed. any ideas?

deduct=$500. gonna cost me a little over that I think. $287 ripoff for the light assembly which only has a crack in the cover but they don't sell just covers. if bumper has to be painted, i'm sure the price goes up. looks like it will since they will have to drill it, then pull and heat it to reform. or order a new bumper all together. not happy about this.

that sucks. that's why you drive a beater car to the grocery store or gym.

Just have insurance order all new parts. Don't let the body shop repair the old one, it just won't be the same.

do you want to sell that cracked tail light after you get the replacement? I've been looking for an extra set of rear lights to modify.

Yea I would definetely try to go with new parts.. If its worth using the deductible might as well make it like new.. I can't imagine drilling the bumper.. then heating it and moulding it is gonna be anywhere close to perfect..

Also might wanna make a police report.. for hit and run.. probably wont find the ba$tard but at least then the insurance has a report on file.. cover your a$$...

was it a nice gym? maybe they have surveillance footage.. usually they aren't the most cooperative in those regards.. but it couldnt hurt to check..

well the gym is in the top 5 in the country. going to ask today if they have video. i don't think so. the owner is a friend so he would help. not counting on it.
i'll be happy to sell the old light. make me an offer. i'll only have one to sell though. the other is fine.

I'd be all over every car in that parking lot looking for your paint or a smudge mark at the exact height of your injury. People suck!!
That's almost like some guy pricking your girlfriend while you turn your back.
You might be able to reform that bumper yourself, just remove it and push out the indent, then use a heat gun to gently heat the "creases" from the back unpainted side and immediately hit the heated area with a towel that has been in a bucket of ice water to "shrink" it back to shape.
I worked in a body shop for a couple of years.
This might not be perfect but it will get you by while you save your money and wait for parts.

Re: dent in bumper and broken taillight help

wasn't there a report that said the average damage in a parking lot to a G35 is $1500? i remember 3 tests were done and the average cost to repair came out to $1500. i remember reading it in an old post. even if it's not that much damage you should probably just get it replaced and have your insurance pay for it. just my 2 cents
