Aftermarket Alarm

Last weekend I had my car at a local shop to get my a alarm installed with the remote start and they were unable to do it. I am a little disappointed because I am don't really trust the stock alarm. I have had my other car broken into before and all they had to do was disconnect the battery and they took everything. I wanted to buy the Viper unit so it pages me if someone is trying to break in. They had a problem where because I have the keyless entery and keyless start the remote start seems unsafe. How they explained it to me is that in order for the remote start to woke they have to put a valet key in the car somewhere. Now if I start the car anyone who walks up can just open the door and leave with it. They also said that if I walked up to the car if I disarm it I still need to unlock it like normal. Is the shop I took my car to full of it?

I would say so, if you have an aftermarket alarm they would be able to tie it into the stock system so that it locks and unlocks with the new remote. As far as the remote start you will need to have a unit with a valet key to bypass the chip but I think it only activates when it gets a signal from the alarm, so I don't think they can just take your car without either finding the hidden key or having another key since you can't turn the steering wheel without the key in the ignition.

the alarm is not hard to do, and try not to buy any modules if you dont have to. you can use the pulse signals from the stock setup for arm, unarm, trunk, and window down,

I got the same Viper alarm with the paging remote. I am very happy with it, but the only thing that ticks me off is the the remote is a battery hog. I have to change the battery at least every two months. Also, I did get the viper gps unit because my previous car got stolen, I am very happy with it so far...

I have the viper two-way alarm on my old car. Get a lithium battery for the fob it will last a long time. With lithium thoough when battery is about to run out it will still show full, then in a day it will drop to one battery bar and then die, so keep a spare one.

How exactly does thw viper gps thing work? I was never sure. Do you pay montly for it?

I had a compustar installed in my girlfriends 05 6mt. Evertything works, the autostart, locking/unlocking. And if you start the car the car stays locked until you push the button to open it and even then if someone gets in the car they will only get to first gear before the car shuts off because you have to put in your key when you get into the car.

yep, thats how remote starts should be my old remote start wouldnt let you put it in gear unless you had the key in the ignition. if you pressed on the breaks without the key in the car would shut off. btw, it was a 3AT <-- 3??? man the g was a HUGE upgrade

When I had a 2-way alarm on my old car, I had the installer do a double connection to the battery. Crooks nowadays know to go straight for the battery.
