Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

Ok i am getting rdy to flip out.. Here are the reasons.BTW i got auto 2004 coupe.

1. SLIP. That thing blinks too much. I beleive when it shows SLIP then the computer is trying to keep u on the road by reducing power?? Like its raining outside now, and my car handles so badly.I got the performance tire and wheel package(18" rims and the low profile tires). I imagined they would handle better in rain but nope. Even on dry land if i floor it I get SLIP.

2. One time i was going on the turnpike doing like 80MPH. some dude in a honda blasted by me. he was doing like 100mph. so i floored it, but guess what? Nothing happened for like 2-3secs.I was at the same speed. i was like wtf? is it normal for this thing to lag like this.?

3. I dont feel that much power in this thing. Somehow i feel like any regular $10k car can beat me. I mean if i want to get to like 40mph it takes like 4secs and my rpm will be like 5-6k. Thats if i dont SLIP.

BUt so far the car is beautiful. Only thing that bugs me is i dont feel that 280HP and the SLIP thing? Are all these normal?

Re: Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

there is a button to turn it off.....left of steering column...next to dashlights dimmer.....
This will turn it off....I have never had my slip light come on when button is pushed....you have to be in a nasty spin for the override to take over.......

dude, turn your vdc off when you floor it. This thing has plenty of power and when you floor it creates wheel spin, that's why your slip light comes on.

Re: Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

i can answer 2-3...
2. have you just finished break in?
if you just finished, i recommend you to reset the ECU... adapitive tranny durin break in period robs a lot of hp in order to save gas...from my experience, during my break in period i kept got around 370miles per tank but now(after reset the ecu and make ecu learn it i floor it everytime and it's very responsive now) i barely get 330... so from my experince, ecu robbed a lot of performance from me... it can be differ car to car it's just me... if you let ecu learn correctly, it will be very responsive and it will not take 2-3sec to downshift... and i highly recoomend you to use MM it's so much faster than D mode..
3. i think you are confusing b/w it's fast but don't feel like fast and it's acutally slow but feel fast... as car gets more potential and better durability(i dunno which word to use), you don't feel the speed... i bet corvettes and vipor won't feel fast even at 130mph but you feel very fast and scary with 10year old civic at 80mph cuz it's not stabolized(?).. you get the point... however if you do feel(for real no exaggeration) tranny take 4sec to downshift then check with your dealer...

Re: Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

Your car is too new, and the AT is a total coward during break-in. Next time, simultaneously floor it and pop it into manual. You can try tapping down to downshift an additional gear, but be forewarned that the manual mode is rather slow to shift during break-in and you could easily smack the rev limiter if you keep it floored. Take small steps at first so as not to freak it out and set off the slip light.

Think of the AT as a drunken ex-jock. It will take a strict regimen of hard training (and a few visits to the ECU rehab center), but eventually the muscles hidden under the flab will start to peek out. At 1400 miles, I was barely sneaking under 14.9 at the strip. At 6000 miles she's averaging 14.3s without even abusing brake torque, and scaring the [censored] out of me by downshifting when I'm just trying to inch forward in traffic. Give her time.

are you serious?
is that mean vq35DE will take about 5-6k to fully break in?

Re: Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

yes whenever i floor it my wheels spin and SLIP comes on. but if i have no VDC i would not be alive now in this rainy road.. So i am the only person that has bad handling in rain with the 18" wheels+tire

Also i just put Premium 93 rating gas. I used to put 89 but i changed it. You think i will get better performance now??

Also why the heck do i get like 200 miles per full tank.
My mileage is 800 now

Hm.. Ur car isn't broken in ..

You have an AT so you have to deal with an ECU doing the shifting ..

The performance tires are really good in the dry, but in wet it isn't quite so hot .. keep this in mind ..

It doesn't take 6k miles to break in the engine, it takes tht long to break in the ECU to an aggressive style, am I correct?

Re: Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

For my coupe it took about 5k miles to get the ecu to where I liked it, up to that point it kept slowly getting faster and more responsive.

2fast you should try using the manual mode I think it performs much better(not in veavy traffic though). I believe its 91 octane gas minumum for the coupe ... so the 89 might have contributed to the low performance you mentioned. Also give it a couple of tanks of 93 to expect a difference.

You shouldnt be using 89 in the coupe, 93 only. That's why it says premium only on the gas door.

My vote is to take it into the dealership. There might be something wrong with the alignment. Having the slip light come on that often sounds odd.

Re: Ok everyone tell me if all this is normal?

You were using 89 octane? No wonder the performance was suffering. Since the engine is tuned to run on 91+ octane and you were running 89, the ECU would have had to retard the timing when it recognizes the fuel wasn't being burned efficiently, thus reducing the power output. That was probably also contributing to your poor gas mileage. You're not alone there, however. I have 1200 miles so far, and the most I have gotten is 15.65 mpg, which isn't much better, and I've been using Chevron 93 octane the whole time. I've heard many on this board say their mileage has increased steadily since break-in, so hopefully mine will too (knock on wood!).
