Not fun = serious question

As the winter approaches, I question my decision to go from a 4x4 Jeep to the G.

I have Pirelli snowsport tires on and feel safe.

In the rain I never lose control on corners (Thanks to VDC).

I remember a post about a hospitalized G driver who lost control at moderate acceleration.

Do you people get squirrelly on the ice? Does VDC stop the fishtail? My Jeep will lose control in 2WD but is unstoppable in 4WD. Can electronics compensate for RWD?

Are there documented serious injuries from a G crash at less than 50 MPH? I’m not gonna get into it, but someone from my old fraternity has had their life seriously changed in an Accord accident last winter...hit a semi at about 50 on ice. How does the G do at high speed impact?

I love my heated seats and defrost mirrors. I really don’t want to drive the Jeep this winter. (Been driven 3 times since August, once was hauling a trailer while moving and second was while camping….)

If it gets really bad, drive the jeep.

Only take the G out once a week.

Better safe than sorry. Especially since you've
already put in 3 winters of not driving the G.

uhhhhhh.. do u honestly believe that just because a vehicle has 4x4 that it's going to respond better on ice??? u remind me when i used to live in south carolina... we got a bad ice storm one time... and i all i remember is all the retards speeding down the roads in their big suv's with summer sports on... to only find them in the ditch moments later. it's all in the tires. i've never had a situation in my G during winter where i couldn't handle it. fyi: i'm also running pirelli 210's.

i ran 210's for three years and they are great if the snow is not too deep. the problem is just ground clearance not the tires.

no problems in Toronto (Brampton) weather but we have moved further north so i am trying dunlop M3's this time and have also bought a 4X4 and plan to drive the G only on good days.

keep in mind that 2WD and 4WD both have 4 wheel brakes.
some seem to think that because it accelerates better it will also stop better. that is why you see so many SUV's in ditches.

so you're saying you have the Jeep still?

cmon man
it's not gonna snow 24/7 just because it's winter
it snows like once or twice a week.. and we get like an average of 2 major storms a month.. i think most people tend to overestimate the snow when winter is approaching
when you see there will be a chance for snow.. take the jeep
otherwise keep driving the G

it'll be easy and you'll get used to it

Drive the Jeep when it snows... no questions about it. Why risk screwing up the G35 in snow anyways? Even if you drive perfect in the G... it's still going to get all salted up and filthy with harmful road chemicals and is bound to get smacked by loose rocks at least a few times by those sanding trucks that are driving down the road in the opposite direction of you and scratch your paint. You also can't discount the fact that some other person might be driving stupidly and crash into you, damaging your G. Sure, their insurance will cover it... but your perfect car will forever be marred by knowing that it's been bashed, gutted and repaired. Aside from all that, the Jeep will just flat out go places the G35 will not... even in 2WD this is true because of the bigger/grippier tires and the extra ground clearance and approach/departure angles that the Jeep has.

I'm in the same boat as you, since I bought a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 for winter and bad weather a few years ago. This will be my 3rd winter of not driving the G35 from basicly December to mid April. I plan on winterizing it and covering it up probably within the next 2 weeks or whenever the threat of the first snow arrives(which means the threat of first road salt).

The way I see it.... you've already done all that hard work of keeping your car pristine for the last 3 years... why throw it all to waste now?

Mine was a 2 part question. One was about VDC while accelerating vs. 4X4. The other was about not being able to stop and crashing. The G actually stops better than the Jeep. I'm sure that’s no surprise anyway.

as far as the crashing part, i was trying to find a pic of a totalled G that you couldn't even recognize where the driver walked away. I've heard a couple stories like this- it's an extremely safe car, but against a Semi or large SUV I might like to be in a taller and bigger car like the Jeep. I'd keep the G in the garage if it even looks like its going to be wet. Rear wheel drive and lots of torque are no fun in the rain/ice.
