Clutch is being replaced by Infiniti at 22k

My G is currently at the dealership getting the short block replaced, glove box replaced(2nd time), sun roof fixed(2nd time), brakes replaced(8th request), and the alignment correct(8th request). I got a call from the Service Manager and he recommended that the clutch be replaced since it is over 50% worn at 22k miles. He said that we would have to replace it between 30k and 35k miles. We only have to pay $300 for parts since the engine is already out. I have seen mixed reviews about the Gs clutch, but 30k miles for a clutch is crazy. What a POS. I contacted the Service Director and Infiniti agreed to replace the clutch at no cost. I am not sure if they realize that there is an issue with the wear or if the feel bad for the POS car that they sold us. Those of you that had to pay for replacing your clutch early may want to contact your dealer to see if Infiniti is finally taking responsibility for the poor product that they have sold to their customers. Maybe you can be reimbursed for your replacement cost that you had to shell out. I really love the way that this car looks and drives, but it has been one problem after another since the day that we left the dealership. I truely envy those of you that have never had a problem.

Audi allows one clutch replacement covered under warranty. My Audi clutch went at 40K and it was done for free. Infiniti should do the same.

You can easily destroy a clutch in a couple of thousand miles if you abuse it. A friend of mine had an S4 and loved to launch his car at 3K RPM on a regular basis. Launching is tough on all cars but especially AWD cars since the wheels won't spin. So the slippage occurs in the clutch. My friend had his clutch replaced in a little over three months, and Audi did not cover it under warranty. After removing the clutch, they could see that the plates were fried and they attributed it to driver abuse.

Just curious, those with clutch problems, how bad was your clutch when the dealer agreed to replace it? Just chattering? Slipping? Toast?

I'm at 16k at get a lot more chatter than I would expect and I'm easy on the clutch.

The thing about my clutch that bugs me is the sound it makes when you depress the pedal when the engine is above 5k RPMs. I get a loud "whirring" sound when I depress the pedal. There's also a lot of NVH that comes through the pedal and the shifter. All of this seems odd to me.

If you know how to drive stick and don't beat your car all the time, you should get 100k out of a clutch, easy.

you guys all really suck at driving!! that's all I have to say. Stop abusing your G. If you want to push it, learn to correctly drive it first!

I made 40k and I fried everything, clutch, pressure plate, and even the flywheel!!!! Well that's what they told me....BS......Then Infiniti tried to charge me $2400 for Infiniti parts....I got the ACT setup for $1700 installeed.....I know thats a lil high, but the dealer did it.

I bought my '04 in May, with 35K on it. Now it has 47K and everything seems just as good as it was. Is there any way to find out if this is the original or if it had been replaced before I bought it?

ditto! i never take my G from a Dig the car is too damn heavy and this isnt a ****in HONDA. if you want to go fast go from a roll and dont drop ur gears, that reduces clutch life too, if you do drop a gear drop it in the right gear and go easy on it, dont jsut **** and let that **** out! Nissan clutches arent Honda clutches!
