Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
Guys I did find something very interesting on www.car-stats.com. According to the site the 2003 S2000 runs a 6.3 second 0-60 time with a 14.9 1/4 mile. The 2000 S2000 runs 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and does the 1/4 in 13.8. That is a HUGE disparity between the those two model years. Wonder why that is? This actually falls close to my experience as well. I have 6MT and have done several stop light drags with maybe 3 or 4 differant S2000's. Of those I have OWNED no problem at least 2 by a couple car lengths. Yes, there were racing as I heard the 4000+ RPM clutch drops. But, the other two gave me a good run and one guy whom really knew how to drive stayed almost even with me. I am wondering of it's the drivers or something to do with that major differance in performance for the model years. whatcha think?

Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
Perhaps the conditions were different and/or one tester didn't drop the clutch from very high. Often times you can find such disparity for the same model year from one car magazine to another. Some do rolling starts others brake-torque, and others do clutch drops.
Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
for S2k's...it's all about the launch. Vtec kicks in around 6k rpms for the s2k, not 4k. That also shows why the s2k's 1/4 mile time almost doubled when they shifted at 5k cause for hondas', no vtec=no power. Also, it's common to see drivers that want a fast time out of their s2k to launch at 6-7k rpms.

Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
I test-drove a Honda S2000. The car is worthless unless you are in the 4K-9K rpm power-band. The salesman kept stating how the powerband was from 4K to 9K rpm...that is how you have fun with the car. But he also said that being in that power band ruins your gas mileage. I did like the drive of the S2000...it was terribly low on torque but once you are in the powerband, things become fun. Also, the handling is extremely tight and the car has a very light feel to it...loved the digital tach, as well.
As for "caring about your car"...since when does driving your car hard mean you don't care about it? I take my G35C to redline pretty much every day and I probably easily care about my car more than any of you. If you truly believe that high rpm's is bad for your car, then you are sadly mistaken.
Anywyas, nice kill.

AUTO TRANS ARE NOT SLUSHBOX, I OWN AN AUTO G-COUPE BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I DROVE STICK ALL MY LIFE I WOULD LIKE TO SCRATCH MY ***** FROM TIME TO TIME AND ALSO FREE MY OTHER HANDS TO FELL MY LADY FRIENDS FROM TIME TO TIME. HE HE HE, LIFE IS GREAT. I BET YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A G-COUPE, SO GO WARM UP YOUR CIVIC AND KEEP ON DREAMING OF THE G OR YOU CAN JUST KEEP ON PEEING.
Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
Well, it depends on the driver, if both drivers are good and willing to give the best shot, S2K should win. That S2K guy must be a really bad manual driver, or not willing to rev his car too high. I know someone with a Manual Z got dusted by a G35 Sedan 5AT. If a G35 Sedan 5AT can dust a Z, then why can't a G35C dust a S2K? As long as the driver can't drive manual good.
Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
VTEC kicks in at just over 4K RPM, not 6K RPM...
Why the hell do people keep bitching back and forth about manual or auto? So some of the other owners have autos, who cares?

Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
The VTEC kicks in at 6k, Trust me I've spent a lot of time above 6k in the S2000 for just that reason. I cant speak for the 03 or 04 S2k cause I know they dropped the redline but I know for a fact the 00-02, what ever it was before they made the change wakes up at 6k rpm. As far as which is faster it's a drivers race.
Launching the S2k takes little skill, Rev it to 6500 and drop it, thats all it takes. She takes over from there hooks up and is out. The G takes more skill to launch.

Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
The 2004 S2K (or is it S2200 now?) should be easier to drive for the novice.
The new ones are running pretty close to the same 0-60 and 1/4 times but since they've bumped the displacement slightly the power comes on sooner in the power band so drivers can hit their powerband about 1000 rpm sooner. The redline is also reduced.
As has been repeated incessantly, if the S2K driver is an experienced driver I think they're car may have a very slight edge. If you have two Sunday-drivers racing each other then I think the G takes it easily...

Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
I raced an S2000 about two months ago. No one was on the road but us, this was @ midnight. I have a 2003.5 G35 sedan 5at with a Z tube, nothing else. The S2k had a passenger in the car. We are doing 40mph and both floor it at the same time. 40-80 was so damn even it was amazing. Neither of us could gain anything it was door to door. But then once we hit 80 he started to pull away from me slowly and was waving out of his window. 80-90 he put one car on me then we shut down. I think these results are about right for my auto sedan. Comments?
Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
OK OK, there always be debate between the Z, S and the G...But lets cut through the old crap cake here... Now for those who have droven an S, know that that little bastard halls... I know it only gots 240 horses and like 150 torque....but its LIGHT...The G and Z are both pretty heavy cars.
One time me and my cousin were in his S2000, and we raced a 350Z... It was a damn close race, he didnt lose us, we didnt lose him. It was pretty much a drivers race.
I am not saying its impossible for a G to smoke and S2000, i am saying that the s2000 isnt slow...and when that car hits VTEC, i feel it pull harder then my G. I love my G, but put 3 really good drivers in the G, Z, and S.... the Z will come in first, the S in second, and the G in third for sure. And that is equally good drivers.. and i am talking 1/4mile drag, not tracking. And of course in that race all the cars would be STOCK, and under the same conditions. So to each his own... but if ur gonna call an S slow... that would ign'nant...
PS- S2000 are unforgiving cars, they are really hard to keep in the power band, and need to have a good drive behind the wheel to get the full potential power from it. That would probably be why a lot of people think the S2000 is slow...cuz they are so damn difficult to drive...peace!

Re: S2000 - Got Dusted!!!
Sorry, SnMDesignStudio...The S2000 VTEC DOES kick in at anywhere between 6000 and 6500 RPM (the variance is due to oil pressure).
I DO know this for a fact because I owned a 2002 S2000 from January 2002 until October 2003.
The S2000 is a fast car. If you know how to drive it, it is faster (slightly) than a G35. However, many (not all) S2000 drivers don't truly know how to drive it. In fact, if you want to drive it aggressively, you have to virtually relearn how to drive (aggressively, not overall).
The worst problem with the S2000 (which is a great car) is that the low RPM torque and HP is too low for basic city driving (stop lights require a "blip" of the gas to just start smoothly).
But after you get it above 10-15 MPH...GOOD LORD...it loves to move...and it will handle any curve you throw at it.
