How did I miss this thread for so long? You know how I lurk, waiting for a mustang thread to pop up.
Anyways I agree with UFGator and raise the BS flag to +100000! ...and Stu has first hand experience.
You need to be putting down some serious power to put 7-8 cars on an 03+ Cobra, not to mention be running low 11's or better for that kind of difference. Stock 03+ Cobras are mid to high 12 cars. Best you could hope for with an F/I G is an even match or 2-3 cars difference. The torque alone is not even comparable. Once the mods begin, you need to be in the mid 400rwhp range to even come close.
If you need a reference on what an 03 Cobra sounds/looks like, check the vids in the sig.

But if you beat these Guy's Kudo's to you! Me personally, I would be sick if i got beat by a mostly Stock G35 and I had a new Stang!! LOL. Aiight Speed Safely!
My last dyno was at 435WHP - yes, to the wheels. I've got 3.92 gears, trans work, etc...it's not at all unlikely that my win was true.
Don't assume 'stock g35' can't beat one...that's not me. The rolling start was his advantage as well...but if it's a stock Cobra - I definitely had the edge here.

So yea, I can see how you think most everyday drivers will get mid to low 12's give it a rest - those numbers aren't EVER true to real life and the car is heavier than the G!
Then take a 435WHP G - that is really well modded for a 1/4 mile - and you think it can't be about 3/4 of sec faster? When it has close to 100HP more under the hood and it's lighter?
Come on guys...I was there - the car lost - and some basic facts prove it to be so.

Remember - a stock G vs and stock Mustang GT - close races and likely the Mustang will win - most of it will be driver competency.
A decently modded NA G to that Mustang GT - the G should win.
Cobra to stock G - no way in hell the G is doing anything but sucking fumes.
Heavily modded FI G to stock Cobra - far more interesting, depending on how deep the FI and other mods go - and the drivers abilities.
Same G to a modded Cobra - not likely at all - if the drivers are both on top of their runs.
It comes down to the driver in the end though...

My buddy has a 2006 Mustang GT w/ Diablo tune and CAI. We have drag raced numerous times on some empty back roads. Basically, if he gets a perfect launch and I get a perfect launch, the Mustang wins. Keep in mind it is a much easier car to launch (no F%^ing wheel hop).
However, don't be afraid to take one on. If the Mustang bogs or gets too much wheel spin you will take him.
For the record, I would launch at about 3,000 RPM, feather the clutch and modulate the throttle to keep initial wheel hop under control. But a half second later I would go full throttle when the wheel hop is only minor. I found my fastest runs were when I would just power through some moderate wheel hop.

Are you seriously trying to tell me that a 03 mustang cobra is a mid to high 11 second car? Forget that i dont care if you even own one haha that is the biggest pile of BS i have ever smelt in my life.
Only exception to this is if you live in death valley and then that would mean the G would be a mid 13 second car stock. The lowest i have ever seen a stock cobra here in florida at bradenton motorsports park is 12.8.
Im not saying that a G would even hang with one unless you have FI, but no way stock cobras are an 11 second car...
EDIT: we have alot of "rough necks" around here and mustangs are all they drive soo trust me i have seen more than one cobra at the track...

I seriously question everyones reading and research ability here.
ISMSolutions: 13.1 has been done by testers, but so has consistent 12.5-12.8's. I trust the mustang magazine sources who drive these cars all day long. I ran a 12.8 in stock form (other than CAI) and a 12.1 @117 with my pulley, tune, CAI, and exhaust. A few minor suspension mods as well, but Goodyear GSD3 tires on the rear at 17psi. With DR's I would have dipped high 11's.
Your controlled situation is from one source, and I never said everyday drivers can get that. I know I am capable of that, but I have owned 5 mustangs and know how to drive them. Please do some more extensive research next time. With that said your post #38 is more reasonable.
Nismo G: a stock 03 Cobra cannot run 11's. Maybe with slicks and skinny's but that could be tough to pull off. Plenty of modified Cobra's with the basics for a Cobra (i.e. pulley, tune, CAI, Exhaust, tires) are all over the 11 range, but many also see low to mid 12's depending on driver, conditions and tires. The driver and mods are the key factor as with any 1/4 mile run.
Why do mustang owners gotta be roughnecks??
Believe what you want naysayers. The fact of the matter is that 7-8 car win for a FI-G over an 03 Cobra is a stretch. I know anything is possible on the street and there could have been wheel spin, hop, or a bad driver. I can understand a stock Cobra more reasonably since they put out around 365rwhp vs. the G's 435rwhp. But just a CAI and Catback will bump a Cobra to 400rwhp.
I expect to have another Cobra (hopefully GT500 if pricing is better) by the end of this year. I will gladly go to the track, dyno, etc. with anyone on here for proving ground and match ups.

0-60 we are equal i think, the mustangs are real sluggish
i drove aGT and it was the most dissapointing test drive ever... itthe steering was heavy, the turning sucked, and the only thing i liked about it was the exhaust note. the interior is also much cheaper. ive never been so dissapointed with a car... if u didnt get hte point already

The interiors definitly are the biggest gripe of all mustang owners. I also don't know why they don't put better headlights in as well. When I went from the GT world to the Cobra world, I didn't realize what I was missing and why I didn't switch sooner. You would probably like the steering and turning a lot better, but the acceleration would leave the biggest lasting impression. Seats are much better than the G's in my opinion. Squeaks and rattles are much more prevelant than a G, but mustang owners are used to it.
