Def get the G..if your going to buy a supra buy a SUPRA not a NA slug. The NA supra is slow as ***** and not fun to drive. I would go with the G...its faster better looking and newer (less engine problems and what not).
Now if you are going for a 97 twin turbo supra haha that thing is the sweetest car on the road. Once im done with college it will be the first car i own.

G35 is obviously the nicer car and is not going to have as many problems over the next 5 or 6 years. I don't know what your living situation is... but if you're living on a college campus, I'd probably just get the Supra since it's a ton cheaper and won't kill you as much to park it in the school parking lot and possibly have someone ding it up due to the daily chaos of college campus life.
It would be foolish of you to replace that motor with a newer motor for no reason at all other than the odometer reading. It's a super reliable engine that is built like a tank... and like most Toyotas, the motors usually outlast the rest of the vehicle. If the motor starts having major problems a few years down the road, then replace it... but for now, just drive it as is.
A N/A Supra is not a slow car by any means. It's not Fast one either, but it will get going quite well and would beat a N/A 3000GT when both cars are stock pretty easily. Fuel economy isn't that good on those things though.... but it's not exactly stellar on a G35 either. The Supra also has an unbelievable following of aftermarket parts, so there's a ton of room to upgrade everything on that car even if you stay N/A.
If it were me, I'd consider money as the primary decision factor at this stage of your life if you're in college(I'm assuming you are).
$7K is a good deal for that car too if it's in any kind of decent condition and has been cared for, and I doubt it'll lose any significant resale value over the next year or 2. You could probably literally drive it for 2 years and then sell it for the exact amount that you bought it for... then maybe buy the redesigned G35 Coupe at that point if you're out of college.

Now it also sounds like this might be a financial decision. I can't see your portfolio but i have a feeling you making payments and insurance might stress you. If you are in college and you have nothing to worry about buy the car i guess. When i was in college i had many motorcycles (granted i wasn't pinching pennies too badly) and waited till i got out of college with phenomenal job to get the G a few weeks ago. Yes i could have afforded the G in school, with parents paying insurance. But then i would have had no money to drink away. Or to buy condoms that would ensue from having a g
Anyhow buy the supra, not sure i want you in the fam

not sure I want you in "the fam", you self-congratulatory ****.
back on topic:
The supra is a better pick if you're sure you'll want to be eyeballs deep in modding and maintaining. It'll be a great and rare car (depending on where you are), but you have to be willing to do the work and put up the money.
The G35 coupe is a better pick, if you just want a pretty good all around car that will last you as long as you'll need it. Don't expect it to have the personality or get the attention like a well taken care of supra will, but it'll be good for just about everything else.
If you decide to get the G35, welcome to the forums. If you get the supra, congrats on your new project.

You Dont Just Have To Do The Motor, The Suspension Brakes Hoses, Belts, Tie Rods, Ball Joints Wheels, Front End. Cars Have More Parts Then Just Engines, All Said And Done Your Buying A Ten Year Old Car, For 7000 And That Is Because Its All Its Worth. It Sounds Like Your Buying Someone Headache. Most Motors Are Ussually Tired At 150000, Its Not A Diesel. Go With The G, It Has Alot More Technology, And In The End I Know It Will Cost You Less. Plus You Have A Warranty! And Can Always Get An Extended One Too.
