Gel cell vs lead acid
If you Google " gel cell ' you can read about the uses for these batteries. in my searches I found none that are suitable for automobile use IE: the capacity isn't large enough. A gel cell won't spill acid if you tip it over, let's hope you don't need that feature!
When looking for a battery, choose the manufacturer you want, look for the cold cranking amps of the battery. It should match or exceed what is in the car now. This is what's important in cold weather when you start the car and the amperage draw is highest.
Your battery needs to be 12 volts and the CCA needs to be right. But at the end of the day; 12 VDC is 12 VDC no matter whose name is on the battery, if you prefer one brand over another go for it. Maybe one has a better guarantee than a competitor, other than that your G won't know the difference.

gel batteries vs water batteries is that gel can be shook, mounted upside down, and do not need servicing like a water battery. water battery makes the chemical reaction with distilled water in a res bank. gel will last longer but are more expensive. the optima red top is a great battery and you can drain that thing and recharge it with no problems
gel batterys and dry cell batterys technology has come a long way in the past 5 years both have pros and cons but both are better than a wet cell lead battery..... optima/exide/interstate/olympic/deka all make good stuff..
